Hi-Fi Mod, perfect description

Review By:

Purchased From:
Ebay and sent to Keeley
Price:
$60.00 USD USED
Features:

Speed and depth, pretty straighforward.

Sound Quality:

I really liked the stock pedal. Previously I had been running a Small Clone which sounded very lush on my 1966 Pro Reverb but has quite a bit of coloring to the signal and with overdrive pedals it would sometimes get a little harsh depending on the amount of drive. I found that the stock CE-2 suffered from the same issues but less than the Clone, so I preferred it. It's a clearer pedal with that great analog tone. Now I have to say that the best way I can describe the sound after the mod is a marriage of digital high fidelity and analog warmth. It is a much clearer pedal now with less coloring, better level volume, and less added distortion. I can see how some players won't like the pedal if they enjoyed the coloring of if that was what appealed to them about the pedal. For my personal tastes this pedal is the best chorus pedal I've played. I even prefer it to the Fulltone Choralflange.

Reliability/Durability:

I imagine that a Boss pedal that is hot rodded by Robert Keeley should prove to be pretty reliable.

Ease of Use:

Two knobs, pretty straightforward.

Customer Support:

It's quite the bit of a story about my customer service interaction with Keeley in regards to this mod. A situation prevented me from sending in the pedal after I had bought the mod, which led to me owning the mod for a year before I was able to send it in. Nonetheless when the time came Robert was great and was very understanding even though records of my purchase were probably archived. He trusted me and did the mod with no problems.

Overall Rating:

It's a great chorus pedal if what you want is very clear and open chorusing. If you are going for colored chorusing I would consider other options. If you need headroom and are running overdrive it will play nice with it's other pedal friends.

using a marshall and a les paul junior, noise is not there at all even with the depth all the way up. this pedal was real nice before the mod and is tremendous and stupendous now! deep, almost leslie sounding, great in my opinion. use this boss ce-2, which i got for nothing in an ebay deal, next to a boss dd-3 and a tu-2 boss tuner. these are my essential effects
Reliability/Durability:
i would use it without any thought of a breakdown. after all, if you care for your equipment,,,,,,,,,,and after 40 years of playin, i never saw anyone break a pedal ever.
Ease of Use:
easy? could not be easier! 2 knobs, 2 jacks.
Customer Support:
deal with this guys company. they do great work and turnaround time was unbelievable.
Overall Rating:
classic rock almost every weekend. great match. playing 40 years. amp for every situation. half dozen guitars. i wont loose it! love it to death! deep and lush,,better than stock by a mile. love the new blue light! got it for $0 so i didnt compare it to anything else. i really needed it to diversify my sound a bit, along with my echo. i abhored pedals before this. if your guitar right thru the amp didnt sound great, pedals were not going to help your butt.

The sound quality is wonderful after the mod.  I played my Hamer Newport and my Warmoth Tele (w/Callaham magic parts)and the thing sounded incredible.I felt so artsy, and probably much more talented, than I actually am.  I ran both through a Dr. Z Maz 18; a fine piece of tonal sexuality if there ever was one.
Reliability/Durability:
Let's come down to earth here for a few seconds:It's a Keeley! Who is worried about anything going wrong?  Even if something bad did transpire, Keeley would fix it, unlike most of our elected leaders these days.  Robert is a class act, and this world could use more like him.  End of story.
Ease of Use:
Well, there's 2 knobs.  Rather elementary I would say.  Great variance after the Keeley mod.  Chorus pedals are what they are.  Think Andy Sunmmers, Chrissie Hynde, Marty-Willson Piper, etc.  You either get it or you don't.
Customer Support:
I've sent him 2 pedals already, and there will be more sent in the near future.  Why bother with all the novices?  Mr. Keeley has got it down.  Those mods are worth every penny.  I guess the oversight in engineering at Boss is his gain.  No pun intended.
Overall Rating:
Yes, I'd get another.  The overall rating is 10 baby!  I play my own music and this is just fine.  I don't like dragging my old Ibanez UE-Multi Effectors around.  They stay at home, actually stored in my friend's studio.  Rock on Keeley! Let there be world peace one of these days.
