I read glowing reviews for the Route 66 pedal and couldn't wait to get one. Lesson learned, don't believe everything you read and always buy sound equiptment with your ears. The thing that really annoyed me was that ghosting after tone. Maybe that is what a TS-808 that the RT-66 is said emulate sounds like, but it was not something I didn't wanted to hear.   Brian at Indyguitarist .com  has figured out how to make this a pretty cool pedal.

Support was above and beyond the call of duty. Brian helped me with the Mod kit questions via E-mail late on a Sunday night. Brian has been helpful with his knowledge even before I became a customer.

Brian will fix up your pedal or sell you a mod kit. I got the mod kit which is an instruction picture and components. You don't need to know electronics, but you do need basic tools ,screw driver, wire cutter ,tweezer, rosin core solder and small tip soldering iron. If you can solder you can do this .   When  I played through the modded  Route 66 I was so glad I didn't throw it in the wood chipper. Now it really sounds nice, rich tonal quality , no evil little gremlin of a ghosting aftertone that is beyond disturbing. This is a double pedal ,overdrive on one side and compressor on the other. The original compressor was good but noisy at high volume. Now it is a better compressor and pretty dang quiet even using a power supply instead of a battery. I am using a Mutec brand power supply ,9volt 0.2amps, seems to work well with this pedal.    Not everyone likes the same sounds of course but I wish the people that rave about the Route 66 could hear this jacked up version that can sing like a bird.   I play mostly Aria guitars,Fullerton,Cardinal,PE,and Gibson Les Paul through Peavey and Fender  solid state amps. Some reviewers say drive pedals only sound good through tube amps so I took the pedal over to Daddy's Music and they let me try the unmodded 66  thru a new top of the line Fender tube amp. The unmodded 66 was a dud through that amp too. Don't believe everything you read. There are exceptions and some gear will work better with tube amps but it is not a carved in stone absolute fact. If you have a route-66 and you want it to sound better feel confident to deal with Brian Wampler. He gave this pedal a nice rich driven tube sound.
