One knob - simple enough.

Sound Quality:

I bought the block logo version for $35 on Craigslist. When I first used it, there was a huge volume boost when engaged and very harsh sounding (as many reviews have spoken about). It was essentially unusable. I had to keep the knob all the way at the lowest setting (6:00) or it would sound way too much phase for my taste. I came on here and read all about the R28, C11 and C12 mod. I figured, hey even though I don't know anything about electronics, it seems easy and if I screw anything up, it's only $35. So I went ahead, took it apart, clipped the R28, C11 and C12, and suddenly it went from being a $35 purchase to a $100+ pedal. No more volume boost, no more added harshness and distortion. Now it sounds AWESOME! I can't imagine anyone using this thing pre-mod. Now I can use the knob anywhere from the lowest setting (6:00) up to about 12:00, and it sounds great - mellow phase, clear, warm, so much better than pre-mod. So happy I researched this mod and went ahead with it. In case you're interested, my setup is:

2007 Fender American Strat Ash body with S-1 switch > Crybaby 353q Wah > Boss TU-2 > Ibanez Tubescreamer TS-5 > Fulltone OCD V.4 > Ibanez CS-9 Chorus > MXR Phase 90 MODDED > Boss DD-7 Delay > Peavey Classic 50 (pre-amp, no effects loop).

Reliability/Durability:

Took it apart and looks solid.

Ease of Use:

Again, one knob...

Customer Support:

Haven't dealt with them.

Overall Rating:

After the mod, this thing is excellent. Sounds great on clean and overdriven guitars, but I prefer it on the clean settings. Adds dimension, especially on low settings. Can't go wrong after the mod. Highly recommended.

Before the mod, 5 after 9. The one thing i would like to share about the R28 and C11/c12 mods are that one some models clipping the capacitor will make the unit inoperable. I did the R28 mod, sounds great. Clipped the caps, and the volume dropped out almost completely. I got the values from Dunlop (C11=.01mF C12=680pF, there is no polarity with these caps (they can go in either direction) and put in new caps (the old ones are very small). Works great again. I am not sure if it was the c11 or c12, but when i put in the c11 alone, it had the same volume issue. After putting both c11 and c12 in, works great! I have seen this issue reported on some of the bboards, but thought i would share it here too.
Reliability/Durability:
Still works after all that...
Ease of Use:
One knob, one switch. Make sure to plug the guitar into the input side, amp into output:-)
Customer Support:
Hey they replied quickly and gave me the cap values.
Overall Rating:
Sounds great now.

Sounds cool. Effect ranges from slow chorused sounds to a choppy flange-like machine gun. again, I rate it a 10 for sound quality.
Reliability/Durability:
Not much to tear up. One knob, one switch, rugged little metal body. I dare you to break it! Also, it does exactly what it's suppose to do. It's a 90 degree phase shifter with no hesitance to perform exactly as indicated 10 is as reliable as it gets.
Ease of Use:
The very first pedal I ever bought back in 1982. This pedal is pretty much the easiest effect you'll ever use. Plug in, turn the ONE knob and find your sound. Really, do you need any instructions? Nope. I'm giving it a 10 all the way across the board. Just about every other Phaser out there tries to take this pedal and add to it, only to fail miserably.
Customer Support:
Jim Dunlop is very accessable. Easy to deal with and very empatheitic. I've never had to call them on THIS product, but I'm sure whatever the problem, they'd be more than willing to help out.
Overall Rating:
Like I said, this was the very first pedal I got in 1982 and it still works perfectly. The little rubber knob cover is long lost, but it doesn't affect the sound one bit. 10

i have a cheap acme epiphone sg with an emg 81 and 85 and i swear it sounds cool as hell with the new pickups. I am using a crate gt12oo full stack and the phaser sounds good. where you place it in the signal chain affects the sound it would best be used with a loop pedal or one of your metal axe slingin, camaro drivin, mullet havin, van halen listenin jam buddies using the phaser on rhythm to get that VH sound I am giving this a 9 because it does exactly what its supposed to do and it does it very well but you have to have a looper or jamming bud who actually knows how to use the pedal to hear its full potential. so that takes away 1 point
Reliability/Durability:
it is really reliable also, and a 9v battery really lasts quite a while in this thing. The metal is thicker than a tank (to give you a better picture rosie o donnels fat a$% could step on it and it still would work) yes its that thick! the swich is strong and the one knob seems to be on there well i guess. It hasnt popped off yet. the only weakness is the 9v ac adapter hole in it. the thing looks like it would break easily if stepped
Ease of Use:
this is a dang ole super easy pedal to use (1 KNOB) the only hard part about using it is the actual incorporation of it into your playing, nothing sounds right about it if you are playing by yourself
Customer Support:
all i can say is the first one i got from musicians friend didnt work so they replaced it. That works for me, Ill tell ya what.
Overall Rating:
id say the thing works its a good investment if youre going to try to play some VAN HALEN. Thats really about the only band i can think of that used it a lot. but to be honest you can get the same effect and a lot more from a multi effects pedal. The only drawback to that is that you have to fiddle with all these annoying buttons and settings which is acceptable if you just wanna play at home but if youre gonna use a phaser live this thing is perfect
