I am the previous owner of the 3-knob "Signa Comp" compressor that CMatmods sells. After using the 4-knob "Deluxe Signa Comp", I highly recomend spending the extra $15 - $20 for the 4-knob version! The 4-knobs are "Sustain", "Level", "Tone" and "Attack" (4-knob version only). The extra "Attack" lets you dial in some extra snap and bite that you will absolutely want.

Sound Quality:

True bypass means the pedal makes NO noise when it's not engaged. For a compressor pedal, this pedal is suprisingly quiet, even when using single coil pickups and the "Level" and "Sustain" knobs cranked full tilt. This compressor feataures the same sort of bright compresssion as the Ross and MXR compressors with NO distortion of your tone when the knobs are turned up and PLENTY of effect on tap. This pedal seems to favor a brighter sound slightly, but with the "Tone" turned all the way down, it can become very dark if you would like. If you want to dial in a twangy tweaked up chicken pickin' tone, this is the 1 pedal you need! You can smooth out your tone for rhythm guitar as well so that your sound won't keep spiking over the lead player. I also use the pedal when recording basslines with synthesizers, the pedal keeps the level consistant for good recording.

Reliability/Durability:

Very well built. The "In" jack features a nice 'click' when you plug in the cable. The knobs feel very tight and secure. I will never have to buy another compressor pedal for 25 years or more. You pay a little more than what retail charges for one of the big names, but you get a much better product. I would trust a CMadmods pedal on a live gig much more than any other brand.

Ease of Use:

It is easy to dial in the effect you desire. Spend an hour or two playing with the different settings, once you have a feel for what the knobs do, dialing in your favoriate tone is easy. Again, spend the extra $15 - $20 for the 4 knob version, the "Attack" knob is such a plus on a compressor. I've owned the 3 knob "Signa Comp" and while it is a great pedal, I sold it to buy the 4 knob "Deluxe Compressor" instead.

Customer Support:

2 year warrenty. Mr. Mathews will answer any questions you may have about the pedal if you email him. Turn around time on pedals is gurenteed to be less than a few weeks at the most. CMatmods customer service is professional and quick. You can't get that kind of kind customer service from Ibanez, Electro Harmonix, MXR, or BOSS, much less Behringer!

Overall Rating:

Having used pedals from "The big 5" (Boss, Ibanez, Electro Harmonix, MXR, Behringer), I can honestly say that I will NEVER again buy their products. I have became a fan of CMatmods pedals and look forward to reviewing thier Analog Chorus next. You get what you pay for in the pedal world, and with CMatMods, you get much more than what you are paying for. If you want a high end classic compressor effect, don't give your money to that "Keeley" scumbag, buy a CMatMods pedal and you will be VERY satisfied!

Very nice. It is different from the Keeley in some ways-- the CMAT is voiced a bit brighter, I think-- but with the tone knob, you can certainly dial in about anything. I really like the transparency of this pedal more than anything. The compresion is relatively subtle up to about 1:00 on the sustain dial.
Reliability/Durability:
Don't know. I just got the pedal yesterday. So far, no problems although I think that the script lettering will probably rub off but I'm not certain.
Ease of Use:
Great pedal. I've owned several compressors--from Boss junk to the amazing Keeley compressor-- and for the price, this is one of the nicest and easiest to use.
Customer Support:
I've heard that the support is great from this company and based on the correspondence I've had I would tend to agree.
Overall Rating:
Sounds great. I think this is a keeper of a pedal.

Oh wow!!! This is so transparent and so quiet too (for a compressor anyway) it gets a bit noisy at extreme settings but thats to be expected. At usable settings  noise is really low. It just seems to make everything sound better in a way i cant really describe.harmonics seem to be boosted when clean.distortion sounds are tighter.i run it before a usa big muff and it tightens the low end nicely.i run it after my wah and it evens out the sweep volume changes. All in all a great addition to any pedal board.........
Reliability/Durability:
only had it a week so who knows but its built solidly..
Ease of Use:
3 knobs and in/out. its pretty simple to operate once you understand the way that compression works.
Customer Support:
I havnt dealt with customer support but ive heard they are great and very helpful/
Overall Rating:
All in all a great transparent pedal that just improves the sound subtly like a good compression pedal should,

I have toured with people such as Sister Hazel,Lonestar,Terri Clark and other's and have endorsements with alot of pedals but this is a great pedal the compressor he hand built by him self is great he added a toggle that make it a little fatter sounding and also a tone pot and a toggle that can cut the tone off so it becomes the Ross again. I know my pedals and I tell him what I want and he goes to the bench and makes wanders I hope you guy's will pick up few of his pedals.
Reliability/Durability:
Made with great parts looked inside at electronics and he use's good parts and if it breaks and I'm on tour I know this guy is so great he would overnight me one so what else can you say
Ease of Use:
Very easy to use to me but I had extra added to this pedal by him there was two added toggle switch that add fat to the sound and the other toggle cuts the tone pot off this man did a great job
Customer Support:
Very nice person. We sent alot of emails back and forth lol. With my touring and session work I'm very busy put it this way Im so busy I send emails instead of phone and I problie worried the hell out of him lol he was right there answering every single email and giving advise
Overall Rating:
Like I say I tour I have Keeley,Xotic,Visual Sound, and you name it. The small price is offer's is well worth this. I took out my Keeley compressor and replaced it with this compressor. He has taking care of me and made me want more pedals from him. Im greatly to say he might not be known yet because he is a newer pedal builder but he will get to top I will push him over to all the professional players. Pick up his pedals there awesome. Want advise about his pedals I will tell you just email me at        Roadchat@aim.com

Simply put, it's amazing. I'm using it with various guitars into a Sundown tube amp (it's an old boutique amp from the 80's). It's dead quiet when it's off, and nearly dead quiet when it's engaged. I recently did a session and asked the engineer if he could add some compression to my guitar. He said, "well, I have a compressor, yeah, but it's gonna add some noise". I promptly replied, "Okay. Mine doesn't." And I went and grabbed my CMAT from my box. I like to use compression as an effect, just a little squish. This thing gives me exactly what I'm looking for, and the tonal character is like having an aural expander. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
It's a rock. A brick. There's very little to it, but everything is top quality and solidly built.
Ease of Use:
Mine is the two know version. I think there may be an internal trim pot (?) but I've never had to open the thing up. It sounded great right out of the shipping container. Left knob goes from transparency to squash, right knob balances the output and can even add a little boost.
Customer Support:
I've e'mailed Chad on occasion with questions, mostly, and he's been extremely pleasant and helpful.
Overall Rating:
Sound: 10. Value: 12. If you want a simple compressor that expands the sound of your guitar without getting in the way, this is IT. I've been playing professionally for 25 years. I have tons of gear. I play all styles from rock/blues/jazz/country/R&B/Soul/Funk wuddever. If I lost this, I'd most certainly get another. I haven't done any A/B comparisons because I'm just extremely pleased with this unit, so I don't consider other ones. I know the Keeley is a major hit, and a fantastic unit (most of my friends have one). But for less than half the price, the CMAT will definitely impress the daylites out of the most discerning guitarist - especially those on a budget!! For anyone interested, I recently used it during a live jam recording. You can check out samples at www.duaneallenharlick.com/cmat.html.
