Well, sometimes it goes EHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE instead of allowing any signal through. I realize that this pedal is not supposed to get you a pristine tone, but I highly doubt the buzz I often get was intentional. See below for why I'm not giving a number rating. When the unit works however, it sounds great and I can have a lot of fun with it.
Reliability/Durability:
I cannot depend on this product. Explanation: I purchased this pedal in June. Almost immediately afterwards, Josh (FXDoctor) sent me an email saying that it would be about a month before i would get it and if I didn't want too wait he would refund my money immediately. Very accomodating. i said sure I'll wait, no big deal. I received the pedal in September. This honestly didn't bother me much. It also didn't bother me that the pedal had a different paint job than the one pictured when I purchased it. What bothered me was the lack of AC jack, which was listed in the description when I paid for it. I emailed him about it and he said that the description had been changed some time ago and that I should refresh my browser. i did, and he was right, it didn't say AC Adapter andy more. But at that point it had been three months and I'm almost certain that I paid for the version with the jack. Of course i can't prove that and I'm not calling him a trick or anything. But if you're interested in his stuff, just double check with him what exactly you're getting. It might help. The other issue, that buzz of which I spoke, may or may not also be indirectly related to the missing AC jack. I really can't use batteries in pedlas on my board so I plugged in an adapter. I can't rule out the possibility that the wire might have tugged on the circuits inside or misplaced something. And I can't send it back for warranty because I cut a tiny hole in the back plate in order to have the adapter wire come out. I will refrain from giving a number rating because i really can't say the problem is not my fault. Just wanted to explain so that others can be informed.
Ease of Use:
No problems. One knob, one switch. Switch for on/off. Knob for Bias.
Customer Support:
He always shot me back emailas real quick, but I've heard otherwise from others.

My rig incorporates guitars, pedals, and multifx/modeling units. The 8-Bit fuzz has been dead quiet for me on all settings, thanks in large part to the heavy onboard gating. I have been able to find three distinct tonalities by tweaking the bias knob, all of which have been both lo-fi and pleasing. Though this pedal can produce great classic NES system sound effects, its potential use as an old school Black Metal/Industrial should not be overlooked. While individual notes may sound synthlike and glitchy, full chords can be very ripping and evil, especially if it is placed after a non-true-bypass pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
It is still to early to say. My only concern is that the main circuit is held in place with foam ... but I was assured by the builder that there would be no issues related to this.
Ease of Use:
The version I purchased was advertised as the final one to have the original Mario graphic. It has two knobs, one for bias and another for volume, and an incredibly bright purple LED. Thought the knobs are not labeled, it was easy enough to determine which was which.
Customer Support:
The 8-Bit Fuzz I purchased was auditioned by someone else before it shipped. This person did not return all of the backplate screws. Josh was nice enough to send me some replacements ... and he also promptly answered all of my questions.
Overall Rating:
Overall, the 8-bit Fuzz was all I had expected and then some. I would recommed this pedal to anyone who is in search of a sizzly, gated, and insane fuzzbox.

This is a great pedal! I was interested in the claims of sounding like my old nintendo, and its true. The cool thing is that your note gets cut off so it sounds like a synth. That also makes it sound like a noise gate. It reminds me of a Big Muff when playing on lower strings. Really fat fuzzy distortion, just a wall of sound. When playing up high it cuts through great. Amazing for solos, tons of sustain!
Reliability/Durability:
Looks well made. No problems after a month.
Ease of Use:
I have a 2 knob version, I saw a 3 knob version on the site before and now there is a 1 knobber as well. 1 knob for volume, the other I was told is a bias knob. It takes a few minutes to get the bias right where I liked it, but was rather easy.
Customer Support:
Josh always replied to my emails within a few hours, even on weekends.
Overall Rating:
I'd defiantely buy it again since I use it for rythms and leads. All sorts of synthy sounds, just as described. I like that my paint is actually that chalkboard paint. I can write my set list on the pedal itself! The mario graphic is really cool too.
