WOMEN ROCK—Announcing a New Master Class with Hit Producer Sylvia Massy, from Alan Parsons’ Art & Science Of Sound Recording

Santa Cruz, CA Dateline April 11th 2018: An open call to spend a day in the studio learning studio recording techniques from iconic engineer and producer Sylvia Massy at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA—where En Vogue, Tori Amos, and Lauryn Hill racked up the hits and Santana recorded Supernatural.

In the spirit of honoring women in music, artist for the session is Santa Cruz alt-folk/rock band The Soulseers led by singer-songwriter Aliza Hava and songwriter/pianist from the hard-rock duo Sit Kitty Sit, Kat Downs.

From her work with Tool on their debut record Undertow to her work with System of a Down, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, and Tom Petty, Sylvia Massy brings an unbridled passion for the unusual to all her recordings. Whether it’s plugging kitchen implements into a guitar amp, recording a chicken solo or, as she puts it, “just blowing s*%*@ up,” a day in the studio with Sylvia Massy is a memorable experience, where you’ll learn cutting edge techniques but also be transported back to the days when recording was wild, crazy and creative. Just as it’s supposed to be.

Although open for anyone to attend, producers Alan Parsons’ Art And Science Of Sound Recording (ASSR) see the event as a particularly fitting platform for aspiring female engineers, producers, and educators; providing a safe and uplifting atmosphere where Attendees can observe, participate, and grow in their craft alongside one of the most respected producers in the industry.

“Sylvia appears in the Art & Science Of Sound Recording video series and although she just prefers to just get on with the job she’s a brilliant role model for the next generation who we hope will take advantage of this rare opportunity to work with her at close range,” says ASSR producer Julian Colbeck.

Attendees will be able to see how Sylvia broke through the glass ceiling not only as an engineer and producer but also as an audio engineering author. A copy of Massy’s best-selling book, Recording Unhinged—tips and tricks from which will be in evidence during the session—is included in the ticket price. Refreshments throughout the day are also included, as is a full-catered lunch.

ASSR’s Alan Parsons will be Skyping in with a welcome message for the attendees.
