Universal Audio Inc. announced Macintosh platform support for the UAD-1 DSP Card and Powered Plug-Ins Pro.

Mackie Designs Inc., who recently announced their distribution of the UAD-1 and Powered Plug-Ins Pro worldwide, will also handle distribution of the Macintosh version. Mackie's President and Chief Executive Officer Jamie Engen, had this to say; "The Macintosh is an extremely popular platform with our music and post production clients. Support of the Macintosh platform shows our commitment to continually provide the products our customers need."

"Support for the Mac has always been a key component of our strategy with the UAD-1," added Universal Audio co-founder and CEO Bill Putnam. "The UAD-1 is now truly cross-platform. We deliver the same box to a Mac or PC users-they simply pop in the CD ROM installer and they're good to go."

The Powered Plug-Ins Pro bundle includes a suite of DSP-intensive software plug-ins "powered" by a revolutionary PCI DSP card (UAD-1) which brings ultra-high computational processing to host-based systems - outperforming the DSP hardware engines of today's popular high-end digital audio workstations. The end result is a quantum leap in performance that allows digital audio workstation users to use professional quality plug-ins with multiple instances unencumbered by the limitations of the host processor.

The Powered Plug-Ins Pro bundle for the Macintosh is the same as the PC version and includes the UAD-1 DSP card; Kind of Loud Technologies' highest quality stereo reverb, RealVerb Pro; 1176LN and LA-2A Compressor emulations, EQ-1 EQ module; CX-1 compressor module; MD-1 modulated delay, and RS-1 Room Simulator module.

Announced free upgrades for the PC version, including the "Nigel" guitar processor and "Pultec EQ" will also be available free to registered Macintosh users later in 2002. The initial release, due to ship at the end of March, will support the VST Macintosh format, with support for Mark of the Unicorn coming later in the year.

The UAD-1 with Powered Plug-Ins has a U.S. suggested retail price of $995.00.
