  • Third "Elements of Mixing" Workshop Features Multi-Platinum, Grammy Winning Mixers Bassy Bob and Ryan West

    By Guest |

Grammy winning, platinum mixers Bassy Bob (Biggie Smalls, Christina Aguilera, Babyface, Herbie Hancock) and Ryan West (Just Blaze, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rihanna, T.I.) in association with Legacy Recording (formerly world renowned Right Track and Sound on Sound, http://www.legacyrecordingstudios.com) are proud to announce the third Elements of Mixing workshop. The event will take place 11am — 7pm June 20th, 2009. Bassy and Ryan will cover many aspects of the professional mixers' work flow from balancing to panning, effects, and especially the use of compression and equalization as key aspects of mixing in today's marketplace. Every attendee will watch and listen as Bassy and Ryan work with world class equipment like the SSL console and boutique signal processors as well as the latest plug ins and software used for in-the-box mixing. Although there will be an emphasis on Hip Hop and R & B in the presentation, Bassy and Ryan will also be tackling mix sensibilities for Rock, Dance, and Indie. Another special focus will be critical listening exercises and techniques designed to enhance student's ability to make good mixing decisions. Students attending the event will also have an opportunity to have their production and mix work evaluated at the end of the day and will get a chance to see and hear their music from a different perspective. "Bassy and I have found that our students have been able to advance their mixing skills not because we show them the dirty little secrets and tricks of the professional mixer, but because we emphasize the importance of creating the proper foundation for a good mix. By utilizing critical listening skills, our students learn how to compensate for poor or less than perfect recording and production, and set themselves up properly so that they can achieve the results they're striving for." said Ryan West. "If our students can identify issues that inhibit a great mix and incorporate our discipline for dealing with those issues, they'll find themselves better able to define what makes a great mix, and I will feel that we've got them started down the path towards being a better mixer, producer or engineer."
