Furman Sound has unveiled the new SRM-80A Signal Router/Monitor. The SRM-80A provides all of the flexibility and capabilities of large format console "Monitor Section" in an easy to use 1U device. Designed to simplify mixdown and dubbing from the single stereo output from DAWs, associated computer sound cards and digital I/Os, the SRM-80A provides signal routing and monitoring for four stereo mixdown devices such as DAT machines, cassette decks, CD burners, MiniDisc recorders, as well as three sets of studio monitors and/or headphone amps. The SRM-80A also simplifies mixdown and copying between different media types. Multiple copies can all be made simultaneously between DATs, CD Burners and other devices, through use of the SRM-80A's "Source Select" switches.

Monitoring any of these sources can be done using the built-in, high-power headphone amp, or using the extensive and uniquely thought-out speaker selection system. By simply connecting the stereo outputs of your DAW, inputs and outputs of one stereo power amplifier, and up to three pairs of speakers, you will have a highly useful and sophisticated audio monitor system. Since each speaker pair has its own front panel level control, equal loudness can be maintained despite differences in speaker efficiencies without effecting level send to any of the four mix re-corders. Additionally, one power amp can be used to power two entirely different sets of speakers.

The SRM-80A has balanced inputs and outputs for the SOURCE and A INPUTS, and for the inputs to your power amplifier. INPUTS B through D utilize RCA jacks. The SRM-80A allows easy signal routing between these dissimilar jacks, and also converts between professional products' +4 dB levels and consumer products' -10 dB signal levels as needed.

The SRM-80A provides a high-resolution 40 LED x 2 bar graph meter to monitor the signal selected for listening. The meter displays a pre-fader signal for accurate monitoring of the signal going to tape or disc. This meter has true VU ballistics, or can be switched to Peak Program Mode via the METER MODE switch. The meter also features a slow release-time peak-hold function. This allows easy verification of critical levels, and helps avoid overload (i.e. digital clipping, tape saturation).

The SRM-80A's Mono Sum feature provides the ability to check for radio compatibility, stereo imaging, and phase problems. (Only the send to the headphones/speakers is affected.) While radio airplay is nearly always stereo these days, phasing problems and odd panning arrangements can show up in less than ideal listening environments, such as cars, and many locations in night-clubs. Therefore, it can be beneficial to do a MONO check.

The SRM-80A also features a DIM switch to allow an easy way to lower the listening level temporarily without having to adjust the listening level control.

The Furman SRM-80A is protected by a limited three-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.

Features:

  • Signal routing and monitoring for four stereo devices such as DAT machines, cassette decks, CD re-corder/players, MiniDiscs -- in addition to main mix from board.
  • Simplifies mixdown and copying between different media types.
  • Use one power amp to drive two speaker pairs, also accommodates one pair of self-powered speakers.
  • Monitor using three different speaker pairs, at the same loudness, using our exclusive "set-once" level trims.
  • Speaker button "A" switches line-level for driving self-powered monitors; B and C use a high power relay to redirect your power amp output to either of the two pairs.
  • Gain adjust for each speaker pair allows for equal loudness when switching between them.
  • High power headphone amp for private monitoring and mix checking.
  • 40-segment high resolution metering for L/R monitor outputs.
  • Familiar VU meter display with peak hold function.
  • Peak or Average response switch.
  • DIM button reduces level by 15 dB during interruptions.
  • MONO sum button to speakers and headphones allows easy identification of mix prolems.
  • Line Level may be set to -10 or +4 dBu sensitivity.
  • Ground lift switch.
  • Optional remote unit allows five pushbutton fucntions (MONO, DIM, and SPEAKER SELECT) to be at the listening location.
