  • Sabian Adds Effects Pack to Neil Peart Signature Paragon Line

    By Guest |

Sabian introduced the Signature Neil Peart Paragon Effects Pack at the Winter NAMM show. This 'Sonically Matched' set comprises two splashes, 8" and 10", and a 19" Chinese cymbal designed to the specifications of Neil Peart, drummer with legendary rockers, Rush.

Commented Sabian master product specialist Mark Love, with whom Peart collaborated on the Paragon project: "Neil was very specific about the sounds he was seeking. His taste in splashes leans toward fast, bright, and splashy sounds that are very direct and cutting. That's what one hears with these splashes... they're very glassy sounding yet direct and surprisingly powerful, so they work great in a rock setting yet offer a versatility and flexibility that makes them suitable for a wide range of applications."

The 19" Chinese presented a new set of challenges, with Peart seeking a more traditional 'oriental' cymbal and sound.

Added Love: "The 19" Chinese is very much a 'traditional' model in the sense of its design and its sound. It is extremely thin, with a very small bell, a short, steeply angled bow and a wide, flanged lip that has had its sensitivity maximized by aggressive HHX super-sized hammering. The response of this cymbal is very open and easy to activate. It is so thin it can be brought to a roar using just a finger. Its response is very dark and very agitated... a dirty sound Neil was previously unable to find in a quality cymbal. Together with the fast, bright bite of the two splashes it offers any drum or percussion setup a very different taste of tone and color."

Like all Sabian pre-packaged cymbal sets, the Signature Neil Peart Paragon Effects Pack is 'Sonically Matched' for optimum performance compatibility by Mark Love and the team of cymbal selection specialists in the Sabian Vault. The cymbals in this pack are quality-protected under the Sabian One-Year Warranty Program.
