Baton Rouge, Louisiana, – It’s loud. It’s obnoxious. It’s the large plastic trumpet known as the vuvuzela (pronounced voo-voo-ZAY-luh) that has become an annoying accompaniment to this year’s soccer (football) World Cup. Fans around the world are desperate to wipe out the huge choruses of this foul-sounding toy that can be heard bleating loudly throughout the games.

We love the World Cup, too, so we turned to our southern Louisiana tradition to bring you an effective solution: voodoo. Now mind you, we’re not sticking pins in voodoo dolls. We can't spare any because we're sticking our entire supply into voodoo dolls of BP oil-company executives as Gulf oil-spill payback.

So we’ve turned to sonic voodoo in the form of a special PreSonus Studio One file that filters out the din of the vuvuzela using our ProEQ plug-in. You just figure out what pitch the vuvuzelas play—our tests show they are playing a Bb—and use the provided file with ProEQ to filter out the demented din. To read more and download the free magic Studio One file, click here.

Once you have done your part to save sonic sanity by silencing the barbaric, bombastic bleating of these trite trumpets, consider this: If ProEQ can filter out an entire stadium full of vile vuvuzelas, just imagine how effectively you can use ProEQ to filter out the lesser buzzes encountered in music production. If you haven’t already checked out Studio One Pro and ProEQ, download the demo from the Studio One page at www.presonus.com.
