Universal Audio debuted their new Plate 140 Reverb emulation for the UAD-1 at the AES show. A fully functional 14-day demo version of the Plate 140 Reverb will be available in the fourth quarter of 2004 as part of the free v3.7 software upgrade for UAD-1. Registered UAD-1 customers will also be able to purchase the Plate 140 Reverb directly from the UA online store at my.uaudio.com for $149.

"The Plate emulations are based on a complex series of measurements and interlinked DSP modules that closely mimic the real-world behavior of a tensioned metal plate and its associate damper and pickup systems" said Dr. Jonathan Abel, Algorithm Designer, Vice President of Technology and Licensing at Universal Audio and co-founder of UA's sister company, Kind of Loud Technologies. "We used the full bag of tricks at our disposal both analytical, perceptual and plain-old A/B listening and tweaking against the real industry-standard reference plates through the same SSL console until we were satisfied."

    Key features include:

    • 3 Individually tuned, switchable classic 140 Plates (Bright, Medium, Dark)
    • Based on plates resident at The Plant Studios, Sausalito
    • Classic Reverb Time Control - each plate retains its settings
    • Low and high Shelving EQ, Pre-Delay, Wet/Dry Mix, Panning.
    • Simple UI design takes best control elements from multiple generations of 140
    • Minimum host processing load
