Nord Licenses the Chamberlin Library

Clavia, the Swedish manufacturer of Nord keyboards has acquired a licensing agreement with M Resch AB to exclusively use and market the original sounds from the Chamberlin sound library. Substantial parts of this library will be preview at the NAMM show in Anaheim. The Chamberlin was the original tape replay instrument, developed and patented by US inventor Harry Chamberlin from 1949 to 1956, when the first commercially available model was introduced. Various models and versions of these extraordinary music instruments were manufactured until 1981. During the years of production, the much-respected Chamberlin sound library grew, and the licensing deal with Clavia includes 60 sounds. The extraordinary Chamberlin Music Master was instrumental in the birth of the later Mellotron. The Chamberlin library has been digitized in a 44.1kHz, 24-bit resolution, and will be available in the Nord Sample Library format, to be used with Nord Sample Library compatible units. As always, all the sounds in the Nord Sample Library created by Nord are available as free downloads from the Nord Keyboards website: http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp. "It is a natural progression of the previously released Mellotron Library, which has been much appreciated by our Nord Wave and Nord Electro 3 users." Sound from the Chamberlin can be heard on countless songs by artists like David Bowie, The Moody Blues, Crowded House, Richard Thompson, Beck, Mitchell Froom, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Neil Finn, XTC, and Tom Waits — just to name a few. Following the success of the world's first digital virtual analog synthesizer — the Nord Lead — released in 1995, Clavia has adopted a number of classical instruments to the digital domain, such as the tonewheel organ, several transistor organs, and various models of electric pianos, as well as a number of acoustic grand and upright pianos.
