  • New SB28 Subwoofer Enclosure

    By Guest |

Designed as the successor to the longstanding and respected SB218 subwoofer, L-ACOUSTICS' new SB28 enclosure brings even more powerful low-frequency impact and improved bass articulation to tours, installations, and corporate productions utilizing KUDO™, V-DOSC®, dV-DOSC and ARCS® systems.

The four-ohm SB28 contains two front-loaded, 18-inch direct radiating transducers integrated into a bass-reflex tuned enclosure capable of operating down to 25 Hz. These specially designed LF transducers provide an exceptional cone excursion capability combined with low thermal compression even at the very highest operating levels. Furthermore, the enclosure's bass-reflex vents feature a progressive profile allowing for truly laminar airflow. The combination of the SB28's modern components with the new vents ultimately delivers a greatly improved +5 dB SPL output compared to the previous standards.

Control and amplification of the SB28 is managed by L-ACOUSTICS' new LA8 amplified controller platform. The LA8's DSP filtering encompasses advanced crossover functions, system EQ, and L-DRIVE™ thermal and over-excursion protection of the transducers.

The amplified controller offers a choice of two drive modes for the SB28: 'standard' and 'cardioid'. Each mode features a high pass filter at 60 Hz when using the SB28 as a companion to KUDO, V-DOSC, dV-DOSC, ARCS and KIVA systems, as well as an additional 100 Hz high pass filter option when used with dV-DOSC or ARCS systems.

Made of high grade Baltic birch plywood, the cabinet also features industry standard aeroquip rails for column rigging, a single 4-pin Neutrik Speakon connector on the rear panel, integral side handles for portability, and a durable black epoxy perforated steel grille covered with an acoustically transparent 'Airnet' cloth.

    Measuring 21.7" H (550mm) x 51.2" W (1300mm) x 27.6" D (700mm) and weighing 205 lbs. (93 kg), the new SB28 and its related amplified controller, the LA8, are expected to both begin shipping this month.
