Sonifex was exhibiting an exciting range of products at the AES show in Los Angeles.

New for AES is the Net-Log audio logging recorder. Net-Log is a dedicated hardware recorder able to record 4 mono, or 2 stereo audio streams for playback using TCP/IP. Audio is encoded in mpeg layer 2 format and written to a large internal EIDE hard disk drive. Playback is carried out by streaming the audio across a network onto PCs. All the Net-Log set-ups and operational features are controlled by PCs, with additional operator over-ride buttons on the front panel of the unit.

Managing Director Marcus Brooke commented : "The Net-Log is a new way for radio broadcasters to record and playback their audio. With the inherent unreliability of PC's for recording, we decided to provide a dedicated hardware recording platform, but use a simple network connection for audio playback, so that anyone on the network can playback audio."

Sonifex will also be showing new additions to their very popular Redbox range of connection boxes. The RB-SC1 Sample Rate Converter, 96kHz 24 bit capable, allows digital audio to be transferred between different digital equipment using different sample rates and standardises the sample rate of a digital audio signal.

The RB-ADDA A/D and D/A converter, 96kHz 24 bit capable, produces an AES/EBU or S/PDIF level digital audio output from a balanced XLR or unbalanced phono stereo audio input. It also produces a stereo balanced XLR or unbalanced phono output from an incoming AES/EBU or S/PDIF digital input signal.

Finally, the RB-SD1 Silence Detection Unit monitors an audio signal and, in the event of the input dropping below a pre-set level for a pre-determined amount of time, will automatically switch through to an alternative stereo audio signal.
