Applied Research and Technology introduced the new 400 series of processors, a collection of equalizers, rack-mount zone and personal mixers, power distribution systems and a headphone amplifier.

Every processor in the ART 400 Series has been designed and engineered to exceed extremely high standards for design specifications and audio performance. The 400 Series processors are precise and flexible, with the quality components necessary for top-level professional audio performance.

These processors are perfect for a wide variety of applications where precision processing, reliable performance, rugged design and extremely silent operation are of the utmost priority. The 400 Series includes the following processors:

    Equalizers:

    • Model 441 -- Dual 15-Band Graphic Equalizer
    • Model 451 -- Single 31-Band Graphic Equalizer
    • Model 455 -- Dual 31-Band Graphic Equalizer
    • Model 442 -- Long Throw, Dual 15-Band Equalizer w/ 60MM Sliders & LED Meters
    • Model 452 -- Long Throw, 31-Band Equalizer w/ 60MM Sliders & LED Meters

The 400 Series Precision Graphic Equalizers feature active filter sections, which incorporate a constant-Q design. This constant-Q design, with accurate precision center frequencies, ensures that the bandwidth of every individual filter will be narrow enough to prevent unnecessary interaction between filters, yet still create an equalization curve wide enough to produce the exact and precise processing of audio frequencies the user seeks.

The Graphic Equalizers utilize two x thirty-one 20mm oil-damped precision slide potentiometers (Models 442 & 452 utilize 60mm sliders) and incorporate independent variable Hi Pass (low cut) and Low Pass (high cut) filters. Having separate and variable precision control for both the Hi Pass and Low Pass filters allow the user to custom tailor the audio signal. Most models also feature automatic relay bypass of audio, an essential function if power to the unit is lost.

The 400 Series Precision Graphic Equalizers utilize a variable input level control, clip level indicator, ground lift switch, and selectable line voltage. Additional features include selectable Scale Switching - (High Slider Resolution +/-6dB - or Normal Resolution (+/-12dB), active balanced and unbalanced input/output connectors, and RFI filtering. A passive Bypass switch allows for direct comparison between the equalized and non-equalized signal for each channel.

The 400 Series also includes the following processors:

    • Model 401 -- Digital Power Distribution System
    • Model 402 -- Digital Power Distribution System
    • Model 403 -- Digital Power Distribution System
    • Model 405 -- Five Channel Zone Distribution Mixer
    • Model 406 -- Six Channel Headphone Amplifier
    • Model 416 -- Six Channel Personal Mixer W/ EQ, FX and Direct Outs
    • Model 418 -- Eight Channel Personal Mixer W/ EQ, FX and Direct Outs

The ART 400 Series Digital Power Distribution Systems (Models 401, 402 and 403) feature numerous useful and convenient features. In addition to a digital display for power input (Model 402) and digital displays for both power input and current draw (Model 403), the units feature a gooseneck light on the back, as well as retractable light posts that automatically shut off when retracted in to the unit.

The 401, 402 and 403 all have a surge and spike protection system, designed to protect powered equipment from harmful electric surges and spikes. The units also have RFI and EMI filtering, a 15 amp breaker, and a total power capacity of 1800 watts.

The Model 405 Five Channel Zone Distribution Mixer is designed to remotely adjust the volume of multiple amplifiers or powered speakers, either individually or in groups. The input of the 405 is connected to a PA mixer's line-level output (the 405 will accept the output of two mixers) and the power amps and/or powered speakers are connected to the 405's zone outputs.

The Model 406 Six Channel Headphone Amplifier addresses the basic requirements for professional headphone mixing. It's a great processor for professional, project and home studio applications. It has an output and level control for each set of headphones, and a stereo input for connecting the program source.

The Model 416 Six Channel Personal Mixer quickly and easily combines six sources -- three microphones (or balanced line inputs) and three stereo line inputs into a single stereo line-level mix. It has effects patching and phantom power (included to activate condenser microphones or active DI boxes).

The Model 418 Eight Channel Personal Mixer provides eight channels of basic mic/line mixing facilities in a convenient, easy-to-use rack format. In addition to a selection of XLR mic and 1/4" unbalanced line inputs with volume and tone controls. There is also switch-selectable phantom power available on each mic input.

The new 400 Series of Processors from ART are designed and engineered to be durable and rugged. They are an ideal choice when the need for quality audio processing is of paramount concern, and are designed for mounting in a standard 19" equipment racks.
