Next Generation Speaker Line Incorporates DSP Effects and All-New High Performance Class-D Amplifiers.

Yamaha launches its new DSR active loudspeaker line in conjunction with Summer NAMM 2010. The series, including the compact and lightweight full-range DSR112, DSR115 and DSR215, along with the DSR118W subwoofer, delivers class-leading power, digital sound processing, plus the all-new D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processing.

“These loudspeakers deliver top-quality performance and are ideally suited for a wide range of professional applications,” said Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Live Sound, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. “The new features in the DSR line set the standard for affordable active speakers by delivering class-leading power, extreme sound pressure levels and a listening experience that redefines high definition audio.”

Leading edge digital technological innovations incorporated into the DSR Series loudspeakers include Integral Digital Tuning, Intelligent Dynamic Control, Powerful Digital Drive and extensive DSP protection.

Integral Digital Tuning helps deliver super-clear, high definition sound quality via high-performance 48-bit digital signal processing and advanced acoustic technologies. Digital crossover networks use high-order FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters for linear phase response, which provides better sound quality than analog crossovers.

Intelligent Dynamic Control enhances sound quality with the D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processor that monitors output levels and varies the amount of boost in each frequency band, providing an ideal balance of dynamic sound with consistent clarity at all volume levels.

Providing the highest level of power in their class, the speakers’ powerful 1300-watt Class-D amplifiers get the most out of the DSR’s lightweight cabinets. Yamaha also developed the PFC (Power Factor Correction) switching mode power supply that helps the entire system achieve its full performance potential. This efficient design allows for convection cooling, eliminating the need for fans. DSR speakers also employ high-power DSP and 24-bit discrete AD and DA converters that deliver superior signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range.

Also providing extensive DSP protection, the new series offers 3-way fail-safe functions for the power supply, amplifier circuits and drivers. In addition to the speaker line’s premium, custom-designed transducers, the exterior finish offers military-grade durability.
