  • Minnetonka Audio Scores Apple Double Header at NAB 2010

    By Guest |

Company expands audio choices for Apple’s family of content creation tools.

Minnetonka Audio Software, Inc. will be announcing two new Dolby products for Mac OS, designed to work inside Apple Inc.’s Final Cut Pro and Logic Studio.

All new from Minnetonka Audio is the first Dolby™ TrueHD product from a 3rd party partner. SurCode for Dolby TrueHD is a plug–in for Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Logic Studio. SurCode for Dolby TrueHD handles both Dolby TrueHD files and streams, converting them to and from the discrete linear PCM format, all within Apple’s familiar and affordable family of audio and video production applications. Parameters such as noise shaping, downmix coefficients, dynamic range compression and timecode can be specified, and a confidence decoder is included for round trip quality control.

SurCode for Dolby TrueHD easily integrates the Dolby TrueHD format into existing workflows on Mac OS, providing more choice of audio content for Blu-ray titles. SurCode for Dolby TrueHD supports mono to 7.1 surround sound encoding and decoding using 100\% lossless audio. SurCode for Dolby TrueHD also includes a Dolby™ Digital encoder and decoder. In a single pass, both a TrueHD and Dolby Digital encoded file can be produced for Blu-ray authoring.

NAB 2010 is also the premier of a new member of their SurCode for Dolby™ E family, now available for Final Cut Pro. Videographers, post houses and broadcasters finally have access to Dolby E inside an all–Apple production path. SurCode for Dolby E works with files and streams, allowing up to eight channels of AES/EBU digital audio to be carried within a single AES/EBU bitstream or WAV/BWF file. The new formats joins already existing SurCode for Dolby™ E plug–ins for Pro Tools, AudioTools AWE and VST hosts such Pyramix, Nuendo, and Fairlight.

“We’re very pleased to bring TrueHD and Dolby E to Apple enthusiasts,” said John Schur, President of Minnetonka Audio Software. “These additions to the SurCode family strengthen Final Cut Pro, Compressor and Logic Studio with new pro functionality, while making TrueHD part of the SurCode line demonstrates our commitment to Dolby and the Macintosh platform - two powerhouses in the video post community.”

SurCode for Dolby TrueHD has an MSRP of US$249 and will be available from Minnetonka Audio Software online or at your local retailer. The Final Cut Pro version of SurCode for Dolby E is included as part of the unified installer for all SurCode for Dolby E platforms, and is a no–charge upgrade for all existing license holders. Both products are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2010.
