Elemental Audio Systems has released version 2.0 of its unlimited band EQ toolbox, Eqium. Eqium 2.0 adds automation support, a completely redesigned user interface, and Digidesign Pro Tools RTAS compatibility for Mac OS X and Windows XP. Eqium version 2.0 retails for $129 and, in addition to RTAS format, supports Audio Unit and VST formats on Mac OS X and VST format on Windows.

Eqium 2.0 presents a flexible mechanism for automating EQ changes through a host. Users may choose which of their filters will be externally controlled and automation written previously for one filter may be used to control another filter with the click of a button. Any of Eqium's 11 filter types, including its 4 and 8 Harmonic Parametric filters, may be automated.

Eqium's user interface has been redesigned to provide more clarity and includes a larger filter graph area for EQ editing ease. Now, all 11 available filter types can be accessed directly without the need for scrolling. Other notable improvements include: Q, bandwidth, and slope adjustment through the filter graph and the ability to choose between Eqium's "filled" filter response display or a more traditional, non-filled display that is less graphics intensive. Due to improvements in its graphics engine, Eqium's graphics response is snappier in either mode.

Other features new in Eqium 2.0 include: stereo output trim meters for separate left/right channel output gain adjustment and parameter locking to prevent accidental parameter adjustments. Like its predecessor, Eqium 2.0 provides 11 filter types, a user definable number of bands and filters, the ability to adjust the number of bands and filters at any time, mono and stereo compatibility, and support for sample rates up to 192 kHz. Eqium is Mac OS X, Panther (10.3) and Jaguar (10.2), compatible.

Eqium is priced at $129 alone, and, until the end of December, available bundled with Elemental Audio Systems' Linear Phase Equalizer, Firium, for $149. Eqium 2.0 is a free upgrade to registered users of Eqium v1.x.
