New from Berklee Press, The Complete Guide to Film Scoring, by Richard Davis, is for anyone interested in the business, process, and procedures of writing music for film and television. This book offers a comprehensive view of the Berklee College of Music’s approach to the art of film scoring, including such topics as : the film-making process; preparing and recording a score; and the business side of film scoring, with clear explanations and advice for contracts, fees, publishing, royalties, and copyrights.

Davis brings the reader on a tour through the history of film music, starting with silent films and coming right up to date with modern releases. Production techniques, artistic style, technical information, genre pieces, and the business world are then laid out in accurate and precise explanations. To top off the guide there are also in-depth interview with 19 established film scoring professionals, such as Michael Kamen (Mr. Holland’s Opus, Brazil), Alf Clausen (The Simpson, Naked Gun), Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump), Mark Snow (X-Files, Millenium), and Elmer Bernstein (To Kill a Mockingbird, Airplane, Rainmaker).

The Emmy and Annie winning composer Alf Clausen called the book "a splendidly-constructed reference manual with a winning combination of technical expertise and the human touch of a film composer’s life experience. It will serve as a great motivator for all composers burning for a career in the film industry." Nancy Knutsen, Vice President of the Film & Televisions Repertory, ASCAP, said "I’ve spent my entire professional life working with composers, from the most talented and successful to those just beginning their career. This guide has captured it all, from the history of film music to modern-day trends, as well as providing invaluable information about the music business." A resource section completes this guide, making it the most comprehensive work on the subject of film and television scoring available today.
