  1. what is a condo to you guys? like an apartment? Pretty close. Usually you own a condo, and maybe pay some association fees that will maintain the complex. You can rent condos too. Apartments are more often rented, not owned, the execption being some places like NYC. The two will be similar sizes, maybe, with condos usually being larger or more upscale. Then there are coops, which are similar again, and mostly a NYC thing, maybe San Fran, LA or Boston, but not that common much elsewhere. You have a whole coop board, etc. Usually quite pricey. You own a coop, not rent, and you have to be approved by the coop board.
  2. What is the average wage in America? The figures people are quoting seem to be extremely high! I think the average wage in the UK would work out at about $40,000 but most graduates will have a lower starting salary. The minimum wage would be about half as much or less. I'd probably be happy with the equivalent of $30,000 or something but I don't have an indulgent lifestyle or any responsibilities. I think I would feel extremely wealthy with any more than that, at least initially! I'm more concerned with the nature of the work and having enough flexibility/time to accommodate my other interests. Things aren't always what they seem though. Our taxes are generally lower, but we pay a lot for other things, that some countries heavily subsidize. The University I work at will cost you north of $200,000 for 4 years, without scholarships (65% of the students do get aid, but still).
  3. I know NYC is expensive, I'd have thought 80k there would be doable tho? sans family of course. I'm not the expert on NYC, but it is expensive. Depends if you want to live in Manhattan or one of the other burroughs. Manhattan is pricey, housing mainly. Forget owning a car too. Rent if you want a one bedroom (nice place) is probably $2-5k/month. Sure you can do less, have a roomate, but at a certain age, that {censored} won't cut it. Brooklyn is a little better. Owning is very pricey, I think the average 1 bedroom condo in Manhattan is $1mil or more. Prices haven't dropped much. Parking space is $400+/month. If I were to live in NYC, in Manhattan, I don't think I could do it now for much less than $200k/year, and kids raises the ante. Private schools run about $30k/year. I know people that spend $100k/year just on private schools. Nice 3 bedroom units are $2-5 million. But that's living nice. Not Donald Trump nice, but it's not living in Queens, and not living like a pauper with 3 roommates in a 1 bedroom frugal either. But that's also why I like upstate NY - a lot more open space, and a helluva lot cheaper too. Both have pros and cons. I can live (barely) on $80k a year here in upstate, I couldn't do it in NYC.
  4. I think it depends on a number of factors, one being where you live. Living in San Francisco or NYC is a lot more than say Alabama. So making $80k in a cheaper location might be enough, but $80k in NYC won't be nearly enough. Factor in any school debt, kids, cars, mortgage, etc. Whatever it is, you'll almost always need more, trust me
  5. Favorite Slayer album, also ftw. Great stuff here. BTW, is the account still open and did you get your bonus?
  6. SOLD Catalinbread DLS. $130 Purple goodness. I bought right from Catalinbread, and some upgraded components in it. Only trade I'm interested in at the moment is the ZVex Mastotron.
  7. Edit, sounds like you did post a dispute, good. Any word from paypal?
  8. Have you sent a dispute with Paypal? Doitnow. I wouldn't wait. 3 weeks is about 2 weeks too long imo. Smells like a rat. Hopefully not, but doesn't sound good.
  9. EHX Stereo Memory Man w/Hazarai for sale. I like this pedal a lot, but don't use half the features. Very good condition, never gigged out, used only at home, non smoking. COmes with box, manual, adapter. Not new, but looks and works like it's new. $160 east coast US, $165 west coast. Paypal, cash only, no trades. Here's a pic on my former board:
  10. Well I went Gibson LP shopping recently, wanting to try out one of their "budget" models, the LP VM. I came away after trying a couple of them less than impressed. I was at a GC, pretty much had the store to myself (off hours) and looked at a bunch of higher end Gibsons and some Epis too. A couple of times I found myself saying wow that looks nice, and then realized it was an Epi. And a couple of times I looked at one only to think, yuck, and it was a Gibson. But the ones I really liked, were Gibsons, and usually the higher priced ones. But then I tried a PRS, and even the Singlecut SE model felt and played nicer to me. And the upper level models were fantastic looking. I wish they were cheaper, but the quality is there. But the $600 SE models I found, were high quality too, just lacked some feature, sort of like an Epi to a Gibson. So do I think Epi LPs are cheap? No. Most are pretty good, especially the new ones out of China. ANd less likely to get a lemon these days. I left GC not buying anything. But today I compared back to back, one of my Epi LP (which has a great looking honey burst finish, and looks a lot more expensive than it is, plus SD pups, CTS pots, etc), to a Fender JV strat, to my PRS SE CUstom, and easily, I find the PRS to be the superior playing and feeling guitar. I like all 3, but if Ihad to have only one, today I would have no problem picking the PRS (and I love my Fender, it just isn't as versatile as the PRS, and I keep hitting the pickup switch when I play). I'll get another PRS in the future, but I would never rule out an Epi either. If I get a Gibson, it will either be a SG Classic or a faded LP DC.
  11. Stock tuners are Grover (at least they are on my G400) I wouldn't change them at all, not worth it.
  12. Well we do a lot of BSing here, it's mostly in fun. I wouldn't mod anything to it, not yet. Play it a while and see what you think. About the biggest complaint I have with Epi are sometimes the pickups are a bit generic, so those could be changed, and the toggle switch usually won't last long, so be prepared for that. As for pickups, depends what you want. Gibson Classic '57s migh be nice, check out offerings from Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio or on a budget look at guitarfetish.com for Jay's offerings. There are a few others as well. Not much else is needed with this guitar. Enjoy it!
  13. They were being blown out my music123.com not too long ago for like $199. Still, for a new guitar, $150 is a very good deal. My guess is you could turn around and resell it on ebay for $200 or maybe even $300. This color isn't made anymore, and might be desired by some out there. Not saying it is collectible, but you never know. But for $150, it is a vey decent guitar, and worth it if you like it.
