  1. Vintage Faded, all mahogany with burstbuckers (stock) take the black plastic hardware off and replace with cream where did you get creme hardware from? i think creme would look sick on my satin ebony.
  2. cool! just wondering how overall build quality goes with these guitars. most importantly---since there's no neck binding, are the fret ends finished nicely? fret ends are fine and everything else really. build quality in both of mine is great. i dont know where that bullshit with QC came from, because i sure havent seen it from my experiance. go play them though, pick the one that suits you best.
  3. satin ebony would be my preference if you dont mind the finish. i actually like that finish better than my full trim studio. 60's neck, 498t. perfect for me. i prefer the sound of the 498t for my tone, however most prefer different Gibson pickups. the faded series is good/bad. bad that it has the 50's neck (too thick for my tastes), good that it has the burstbuckers. i have not been impressed by the cherry colored finishes, the natural mahogany looks much better IMO if i were to buy another studio, i would get the silverburst. that model has a ebony board which would be nice, and if i remember correctly coil tapping.
  4. I don't know if thats true. Also, Gibson wasn't using a PLEK process in 04 when I was made, from what I know. I also wouldn't know how a tech would know that from looking at a guitar. Back on topic I LOVE the ebony board, wish they were on more guitars. it was in some article or press release online. as far as how the tech knew i have no clue. probably the angle or consistancy of the filing.
  5. I really like my studio. Got someone in my area to PLEK it and it plays amazing with great action. The pickups are good if they are your thing. The 498t in the bridge is awesome with some gain behind it. gibson has been plecking guitars at random (well not exactly random, but some of them in need) and my LP Satin Ebony was plecked according to a tech i took it to. just thought i would throw that out there.
  6. Honestly though, I've played precious few Jacksons made before 2002 or so that I couldn't get a great setup out of. I bought a 1997 or 1998 Professional Dinky Reverse with a Wilkinson non-locking trem for like $325 after having been away from shredders for quite a while and I absolute could not believe how great of a guitar you could buy for $325 brand new. Obviously not on par with my old Soloist, but radically better than anything at that price point in 87. this is my third (now that i think about it). my other jackson dkmgt i picked up off of MF for $250, and that is one hell of a guitar. that is the blue one with hard tail bridge. the other jackson that i forgot about is probably a early 90's model that i started refinishing last year and never got to finishing it. what i really love about the DKMGT and the DXMG is the compound radius fretboard. i love how it flattens out up top.
  7. Today, 01:02 PM Today, 01:02 PM :poke: that was after i was typing... haha. i guess i should delete that post. update: i have her all cleaned up and restrung, buffed some of those swirls out and got all of the dust off of everything. for a cheaper import she is really a player.
  8. no congrats?!?!? what has gotten into this place. lol
  9. I picked it up last night right after the end of the superbowl. i payed $225 for a 6 month old 2009 Jackson DXMG, with virtually fret wear and a nice collection of dust (although it has a lot of pic swirls). EMG H4's, Liscensed Floyd Rose, Reversed Headstock with shark tooth inlays, etc. she plays real nice i did a quick setup and wiped some of the dust away. i am going to reset it up today with a new set of strings and do a deep clean on some parts of the bridge where it is really dusty and put on a second layer of lemon oil. here she is: with her cousin; the DKMGT with EMG turbocharger.
  10. I disagree. If you're using a distorted rhythm sound, adding an OD pedal won't do much other than give you more distortion. The volume pedal would work depending on where you put it in the chain. i use the green screamer (ts808) with the volume at a bit past noon and the od at zero with the tone where i like it, and it does a nice soft boost, with very little noticable gain that just fattens up the tone.
  11. i am supprised how we have got this far without "tubescreamer" i broke down and finally bought one (the BBE Green Screamer which is a TS808) and love it. it works well to wake it up a little bit.
  12. the faded cherry and brown, and the satin ebony are all mahogany. the red and brown have burstbuckers, 50s neck, and gig bag and the black has uncovered 498/490, 60s neck, and hard case. where did you find those specs? i still wasnt sure until now what pickups were in the satin ebony that is on the way. what is the difference between the 50's and 60's necks?
  13. Sweet! Where? I didn't see any online places that had the satin black ones in stock. I debated between the satin black and faded cherry. Hard decision to make but I already have a black LP so I went with the cherry. I got mine from sweetwater. i got mine from music 123. i do alot of business with a good rep so he hooked me up. its not here yet its mid january, but i got 20% off. that will be the second LP in my lineup.
  14. this wasnt guitar center either, but i picked up a new satin black les paul studio for $640.
