  1. The Ultimate Bundle comes with a 4 hour dvd tut.... but you may not need it cuz it's so easy to learn. I've only spent a couple three hours with the printed manual, and I have whole songs mixed now.....
  2. I demo'd all of them, and - for the money - nothing is as easy, as straightforward, or as powerful as Tracktion. For instance, it was the only sequencer under $400 bucks that had rock-solid MMC control over my hard disk recorder. Everybody else could match feature for feature to a certain point, but when I asked for MMC, the price quickly doubled.....
  3. Everybody is always asking for the secret cheap piece of gear that will get them studio quality results for $100, yet when someone gives a few tips for people to try and maybe save a little money for their personal mixes everyone thinks it's stupid and you can't possible make anything happen without having $10,000 worth of gear. More specifically, I've noticed this type of attitude crops up especially when the question deals with mastering..... and I'm talking about all forums and boards, not just HC. Everywhere I go to a forum to ask about DIY mastering, I get the same response: Fuggetaboudit! It's like the people who know have a blood oath to never talk, and the people who ask are always fools to even be thinking about trying it.... Supithat??
  4. Well, if Mr. Htaed has some before-and-after sound clips we can hear of his work, I'd be more than interested in pondering his post..... I understand all the points everybody makes about mastering, but I am convinced that a well-above-average finished "home master" is not out of reach.....IF.....a person takes the time and effort to learn the tools and the steps involved. I can certainly use the tools available to me to vastly improve my "finished" sound, even if I dont attain the holy grail sound that I might get if I were lucky enough to pick the right mastering house.... I'm at the point where I may try some of this just to see what happens.... it's fun trying to figure it out, and my mixes sound better afterwards, so what the heck!
  5. 100 watt 12 inch ceramic Weber Michigan speaker....... and a ribbon mic.

  7. Yes, individual tracks! One reason compression is so hard to learn is because if you can hear it, it's too much. It's the only thing in my rack that I rely on the meters instead of my ears to tell me what it's doing. IF I can hear it, then I set it back to neutral and start over. If you must compress an entire mix, my manual recommends using a RMS setting if available. RMS sets the attack and release times automagically, dependent on the signal's average level. Supposedly able to preserve more of the dynamics in your mix.....
