  1. I watched that whole video in the OP. Unless he made up the experiences of having people take notice of his guitar then how is he douchey (by that alone)? He even as much said it made little sense as he'd had the guitar for only five years. I haven't followed John Mayer's career, but he does seem a little full of himself...of course after all the fame he's "enjoyed", maybe it makes sense. I will say though that when he finally shut the {censored} up he played the {censored} out of that guitar (in an uber tasteful fashion).
  2. I figured skyforger RUNNOFT to join the circus. Or more seriously he talked about going to Mexico to buy a Paracho guitar or to Germany to work for Thomann.
  3. hahahahahahahahahahahaha sully you're cruel. hey wait!!!
  4. pesky, that bluesman thread was a proclamation. It was meant for a certain portion of the membership, namely the guys who in any way projected themselves as bluesmen. While it was meant really as a jab toward a small subset, it was disguised as a troll thread. Some guys took the bait even though many hints were given that it was NOT to be taken seriously. A little background as to why JJ called out that "subset". Earlier that day, some kid had posted a clip of himself playing "blues" (I recall it was pentatonically based). Some guys started preaching blues gospel and critiquing his bends as inauthentic. Mind you these were not guys of the prototypical bluesman demographic. JJ had no problem with the kid, his clip, or his use of the word blues, but when some middle aged white guys started *educatin'* the lad jj was inspired. I think his thread caught many off guard. That crap has happened a lot to me here; when I can TELL there is a back story I don't know. I just shrug and move on. Not everything in sinister.
  5. you're quite the apologist. well, if i could change one thing about this place, it would be that people like jj and django were not here, spewing their venom and insults. but then again, its pretty easy to put them on the ignore list. django is already there. jj will join him.You say I am an apologist. I asked you to show me something to defend. He doesn't need me to defend him, but I have paid attention over the years, and I bet I could explain things... especially for peace's sake. JJ's been one of the kindest guys on this forum in spite of the fact he won't care for a moment if put him on your ignore list.
  6. well, speak of the devil. If this is how you sum up JJ then i submit that you have little perspective of JJ's contributions here. You also probably don't understand jj's motives. I assure you it is not maliciousness. If you cite some specific examples of where jj just insults people (without provokation), I bet I could explain where its coming from. I will sum up his platform (as I understand it). JJ is of the feeling that people spend too much time buying gear instead of practicing. They spend too much time arguing and if/when they do, not creatively at all. If he could change one thing about this place it would be that more people posted clips of playing and gave feedback to those who do. It is as if nobody cares about playing anymore. The irony is the purpose of THIS thread.
  7. I apologize I don't have clips to share, but I have been in my greatest tonal bliss these last few months. why? Because as docjeff alluded in the OP I have been playing through two amps. But there's more to it than that... one of the amps is a stereo rack amp (Lexicon Signature 284) with Lexicon rack stereo reverb running through its effects loop and then out to separate 1 x 12 cabs. As if that wasn't enough, I took advantage of my Maxon stereo chorus' 2nd output and ran that into my Ampeg Jet II with a fair amount of onboard tremolo and reverb dialed up. It's surprisingly easy by adjusting the volume to dial in some three dimensional pulse. The result is three speakers with their own thing coming out in perfect harmony. This place? Well it's just a place to shoot the {censored}. It never meant much more than that to me except that I do value shooting the {censored} from time to time. I've come across some fine folks here which thankfully outweighs the unsavory. If i get bored with teh joint, I just take a break.
  8. I suspect if I lived in UK and wanted a hand-crafted guitar, and was even willing to travel to pick one out, that I might venture to Spain instead of Mexico. That's not a knock on Mexico, but considering travel costs, duties, etc. etc., why wouldn't a Spanish guitar be the preferable choice to anyone living in Europe?
  9. Go on... [video=youtube;zyYKT0SzrBo]
  10. After many years of ragged/fuzzy pick edges or torn picks I was IMMEDIATELY satisfied when I tried Ultex picks. I can't imagine a better pick material. They flex, they last, and they don't fray. I prefer the rounded triangle for the larger size (they don't get lost in my hand like teardrops). And as for the corners getting rounded, they do respond well to carpet sharpening technique. What else could you ask for?
  11. Am I the only one offended that in addition to the content, they present this list as so scientifically compiled that in more than one instance ties occurred in the scoring? There is soooooooooooooo much scatter-brained subjectivity evident in this list that more sense can be made from a {censored}-grenade pattern in a public toilet. They do these list every year or something don't they? I'd be entertained to see how people move around from year to year. Gee, So 'n' So died last year and this year he moved up past What's His Face...take that, What's His Face!!
  12. It's not beyond the realm of possibilities that if he'd refused to "sell out" by collaborating with McCartney or Lennon or serving as backup to somebody like Bowie or Rod Stewart that he could have just faded into relative obscurity instead of being catapulted into legendary status. I have a hard time imagining Jimi taking a path similar to Clapton, but {censored} it would have been interesting to how the 70's changed Jimi...or how Jimi changed the 70's.
  13. It would be an interesting movie premise...a parallel universe with Hendrix, Morrison, Moon, et al; alive in our time. What could have been.......
