I've made MIDI files with Guitar Pro. Is that enough? And what is BFD?

So, how the hell do you make those? I've heard about programs like ACID and Fruity Loops, but most samples I've heard are too techno or "extravagant". I'm a guitarist and I want to play with some hard rock, GN'R-like drums. Any suggestions?
