  1. I generally only lurk here these days. It's really sad how MF/GC destroyed something that was beautiful...
  2. I'm sorry -- I think that's a bit of a specious argument: You're comparing a guitar where: 1) different saddles (granted), 2) vastly different bridge size, design, etc., 3) vastly different pickup (P90 vs Tele bridge), 4) Bridge PU mounted to body rather than bridge), Need I go on? That's so many variables, I think it's presumptuous to proclaim that the lack of twang must be attributable to the difference in saddles.... FYI, I have a modern (read MIM standard) tele with a six-saddle bridge and Alnico 3 pickups and that thing twangs like a mutherfucker when I want it to...
  3. May as well ask "Who put the bomb in bomp bomp bomp..." [video=youtube;lXmsLe8t_gg]
  4. I got that email today or yesterday -- they're both pretty sharp. I've always liked "Nashville" teles, so I'm rather partial to that one.
  5. Unless you enjoy bleeding ears, I think it would be OK
  6. What thoughts come to your head looking at Rolling Stone mags top 100 guitarist list? Mainly that there are a lot of people with too much time on their hands... I mean, it's not like sports, where you can compare statistics. In fact, given the wide variety of styles, it's akin to choosing the "Best athlete" between all the sports -- basically pointless...
  7. One of my favorite guitar teachers. I miss that guy. He's still alive! :poke:
  8. I'm afraid I haven't played a post-08 American standard, but I have owned an 09 MIM standard tele since Sept 09 and played a buddies 10 MIM standard strat many times. The only thing I've needed to do to the tele is change the pickups (and this was more on a whim than out of necessity), and I've got an electrosocket jack mount for when the input cup finally fails. Other than that, it's been fantastic. Great neck (if you like hefty), solid hardware, full-size alpha pots, etc. The only wish I have is that it would be nice if it was a little lighter. IMO, the MIM standards are fully-functional instruments ready-to-go. As you move up the ladder you get little extras that are "nice to have" but not vital (e.g. different pickup choices, perhaps nicer wood, rolled fretboard edges, etc.) BTW -- my last FENDER tele before this one was a 95 American standard, and my current MIM is head-and-shoulders above that one in almost every respect.
  9. a deaf guy wanted to send his "assistant" over to my house to pay more than i was asking for a guitar amp one time. that was funny. i sent him all my personal info and never heard back though, still waiting... Funny, I got the same offer on some artwork from a blind guy...
  10. Oh -- I also get a lot of replies asking if I want to trade for "proposition 215" (i.e. pot).
  11. I've found lately that unless I put a stupid low price on something, it doesn't sell. Interestingly, I seem to see the same ads pop up day after day, so apparently we're not alone!
  12. I sold mine earlier this year and find myself missing it.
  13. It sounds like you are talking more about the band and not Eddie as a musician. Absolutely correct. The band Van Halen personified everything I detested at that point in my life, so as a result EVH had absolutely no influence on me. As I indicated, it is only now that I am rediscovering some of his stuff, but I still can't stand the fluffy bull{censored} in which much of it is wrapped...
  14. I never did care for Van Halen very much. Perhaps the whole dumbass party-boy vibe they personified killed it for me, but at any rate I'm only now really listening to his stuff. That said, I still can't stand the stupid lyrics and their videos make me slightly ill...
