  1. It would lend great color to the article to cite examples of each type of reverb, e.g., "Dick Dale's 'Misirlou' is a great example of classic spring reverb."
  2. Terrific thread. Very politely would suggest that you think about the sound - I listened to the YT vid and you're right, it has that nice acoustic-y thing going on, and seems close to microphonic with the ability to pick up string attack (your playing is lovely, btw, don't sandbag your playing it's tacky). But there's a lot you could do with those pickups! You could play with caps and pots to change the profile; you could work with a good boost with an adjustable bias to tweak it; you could run it through really pedlolz to get interesting noises. I would also love to hear it through tubes; I'm guessing that was the THR-10 in the vid? For an old beginner's guitar, the neck looks to be in good shape, too - "don't make 'em like they used to" syndrome on my part, I guess.
  3. I don't know about aged wound strings vs. newer unwound, but I do know that 1st and 3rd strings tend to break more frequently for me. Also, having a couple dozen guitars (15 or so that see regular use from myself and/or others) there is the matter of wanting variety, accommodating different tunings, etc. I'd love to be able to order up a dozen .17's and .18's as we speak, but really wouldn't know where to do that at a price that makes sense. There's a shoebox in my studio with a huge number of cannibalized leftovers, and it really shouldn't have to be that way.
  4. I did read the initial post. I interpreted differently. In fact, the only reason a forum exists is to add editorial weight (i.e., opinions) to facts. Because otherwise, we would just use search. I've no difficulty in admitting my mistakes, and at times revel in them (please feel free to search on the string in the FX forum for when I not only didn't notice I had ordered the wrong Radial pedal, I didn't even see that print on the pedal itself, and then posted pics of my 'non working pedal' ... LOLOLOLOL). One thing I will admit is that in this thread, I am in fact engaging in the practice that I am seeking to criticize, which is kvetching about other posters instead of just moving on. In a way, it serves as a negative example - but it's also venting. As for superior tone, I'll let your post speak for itself.
  5. If a simple search were the best answer to questions, fora would not exist. He's looking for an opinion or recommendation.
  6. Are you still enjoying this? I've had interest off and on, but after a very banal stab at a lap steel, I deeply mistrust myself on novel things. Still as magical as when you first, etc?
  7. Yeah, it has the Chromocaster in it as well; the "all 3 pickups" setting sounds amazing. I am semi-senile at the moment, but think that may be my only ash bodied Strat?
  8. The initial "this idiot ...." remark echoes recent posts where I am distracted from your posts by the tone. Is it possible that you might take a different tack in the interest of readability?
  9. MIK (?) ProTone Strat. Really a lovely guitar.
  10. Yeah, you really do have to click on the tree. Then the "from another site" link. Then paste the URL, name the photo (which is odd) and hit "insert image."
  11. It is with the great solemnity bespoke by the gravity of the event that I hereby rise and nominate Echodeluxe for bellend of the year.
  12. I used to manage an artist who was exactly like your description (you can find his stuff 'around' under the old band name Pie, or the Richard Bitch, or his bedroom projects as Simp). I also used to be around J. Mascis during his "alt rock radio God" days .... much of it recorded at Fort Apache, where many of my friends worked and where some of my projects were sent. You want a Jazzmaster. You're just picky about the 'right one,' and honestly: they're finicky {censored}ers, aren't they? He used to cycle through guitars, too - in fact, he has a blog about just that. He went through a Mosrite phase, currently in a (bizarre and troubling) Flying V phase ... but his current #1 is a Telemaster; a sort of combination parts build/mod of a JM and Tele hybrid. Why don't you do the same? Or, start shopping JM's, hard. Hollowbodies will enthrall you for 4 months and then you'll get annoyed at not being able to turn way up and start over again. BTW, I am SHOCKED that St. Blues is $2,500!!! There's one at my local Music Go Round for $500, except there's a huge chip on the headstock (like 2 x 3 inches; most of the paint). It was intriguing. The Music Man recommendation was good, though I doubt that's the one for you. Nice guitars, though. Nope, you're looking for a JM through a Marshall, it's ok, accept who you are and be glad it's so tasteful.
  13. for those of us who are not aware - what kind of music do you play? at the budget you describe, perhaps you are headed for a custom build? also, steak dinners are $4 in OK.
