  1. Not sure if I qualify as one of the gang, but I'm drawn back here every time I read that one of my old guitar heroes has died! In its heyday this place was absolutely buzzing... has seemed a bit of a ghost town any time I've dropped in the past decade or so... Still, nice to see some familiar old names in this thread - GilmourD, xStonr, Ancient Mariner, GAS Man, Kevman, Brian Krashpad... also just looked up jjpistols and watched some of his vids on FB I don't use social media much but I do watch guitar-related material on YouTube - lessons, gear demos, rig rundowns, interviews, etc. Seldom post on any forums but there are still a handful of decent guitar forums out there that are a good source for knowledge and experience. Cheers.
  2. The biggest rip offs are the following: insurance costs in nearly any context, estate agents bills (both of these economic activities are basically extractive, producing nothing and not usually based on more than the marshalling of data); lawyers fees (let me charge you

  4. Glad to hear it - one of the few names I recognise from HCEG!

Many people have owned these amps for years without any PCB-related problems (although there are always exceptions, as with PTP). The DRRI's reputation for being unreliable comes mostly from the early days of production (1990s), where there were no good quality new 6V6s available. The early new-production Sovtek tubes were often not capable of taking the DRRI's higher plate voltage and thus would often blow, sometimes taking a screen resistor out at the same time. The newer production Sovtek tubes (the Electro-Harmonix type) are thought to be far more reliable - though not perfect, obviously (I
  6. Originally posted by JimAnsell i just got a drri too, and i was suprised how great it sounded even with all the stock eh and sovteks. In terms of sound quality, I can't fault the EHs. I tried some JJs too, but didn't like them (a bit harsh and 6L6ish). I've heard some horror stories about the EHs wrt reliability - and I did pop one once - but they sure do sound sweet...
  7. My main amp is a DRRI. Excellent amp. Bloody loud too - never goes above 3.5 - and I don't mike it. Don't put 6L6s in it - you'll kill the tone. The DRRI is all about that sweet 6V6 shimmer. Enjoy!
