  1. 1gb works very good unless you plan on running a lot of soft synths.

I think you're making this way too complicated. Get something with at least a 2ghz cpu and 1gig of ram. You're also gonna need a lot of hard drive space. The faster the better. My setup is Intel P4 3ghz w/HT and 2gigabytes of dual channel ram. It works great, but I could have got by with a lot less.
  3. You could use that, or you can use the cakewalk vst adapter. Ive used Directxer but I ended up using the cakewalk one. Now Im kinda curious as to what every one else uses...
