  1. I am a long-time Yamaha enthusiast and even I could not recommend an Eterna at any price. They really sound awful.
  2. I hope yall caught on that the picture was a photoshop job. Good one!
  3. I really don't get it. Do the guitar makers really believe that these are attractive? Why on earth would you make a pickguard so big that it obscures all that beautiful spruce? Why not just make a plastic top and be done with it?
  4. I like the Guild and agree that the pickguards on those Gibsons and the Martin are hideous. Less is more IMHO.
  5. In a properly built guitar, this is utter nonsense. No, that is not utter nonsense. We have had folks here who have sworn that their laminate-top Yamahas were solid tops because laminate could not sound that good. Now I am not saying that laminates are always or even often better sounding than solid tops, but sometimes they are. I know a guy who has a Martin D-35 that sounds just awful. My all-laminate Yamaha FG-340 sounds way better. Then again, I know another guy whose D-35 is one of the very best sounding guitars I have ever heard. Anyway, there are some really great sounding laminates out there.
  6. I read somewhere in my search that the "T" in FG345T just referred to the finish colour. Could that be right? Yes, the T simply refers to the tinted top. However the FG-340 and the FG-340T are different in more than this regard in that the first has a 3 piece back and the latter has a 2 piece back.
  7. Here you go: FG345: 1977-1981, Spruce laminate top, Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck, Indian Rosewood fingerboard. MSRP was $260 new. Everything I could find indicates it's a guitar with very nice tone. I found reference to "blue book value" at $35 in good condition; that doesn't sound right. But, as posted above, they may sell for as much as $200-$300. That sounds better. The FG-340 and the FG-345 were two different models. The FG-340 and the FG-345 were made at the same time. The FG-340T was made after the FG-340 and I am assuming (I could be entirely wrong on this) it was based on the same design. The FG-340 and the FG-340T both had Mahogany back and sides. The FG-345 had Rosewood back and sides. I do not know what other differences there were or if that was the only one. I do know that the FG-340 gets extraordinarily great reviews - including from me.
  8. Don't know much about it, except that it's a laminate and probably from the early 70's. Don't think it has much resale value even in good condition, ... Actually, it is from the early 80's and in good condition they generally go for around $250-$300 on ebay.
  9. The FG-34OT should be an excellent guitar. It is all laminate - spruce top, mahogany back and sides made from 1981-1985. The "T" signifies a tinted top. I believe the FG-340T had a 2 piece back whereas the earlier FG-340 had a 3 piece back. If the basic construction is the same as the FG-340 (besides the back) then with a bone saddle and some brass bridge pins you should have a hell of a guitar. I play an FG-340 and it is truly great IMHO. Here are the reviews on the FG-340 on HC: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/product/Yamaha/FG-340/10/1
  10. i bought a zad 80 ce a few months ago. largely based on the testimonials on their websight. genius i tell you, pure genious. anyway, when i first got it, i thought that it sounded nice and played pretty well. i will stand by that assessment. the playability is very good, the sound is just good and the guitar feels a little boxy and heavy. when i emailed their customer service, i got a lot about how the guitar will only sound better with age and that other guitar makers (namely taylor) age the wood for their guitars, so naturally the taylors would sound better. so i decided to give it a little play time and see what happened. it doesn't sound any worse, but...... the reason i went with the zager in the first place is that i hoped to find a guitar for under a $1000 that sounded and played like the $3,000-$4,000 guitars (like the taylor 814). what i got was a guitar that cost $800 and sounded like a LOT OF OTHER GUITARS in the same price range. so. it's not that i'm unhappy with it, it's just not a great bargain. after having played (and buying) a larivee J-09, i relized the depth of my mistake. granted i paid a bit more for the larivee, it was very well worth the extra cash. i also have a 1970 yamaha fg-180 (an absolute BEAST of a guitar) and recently i got an fg 345ll (1973 model). of my guitars, the zager is the one i like and play the least. if anyone is looking for a newer ZAD 80/CE (with case) i'd sell it for less than i paid. THREAD HIJACK!! - I want to hear about the Yamahas. Anything you can tell us about your FG-180 and your FG-345II ? I have the FG-340 and absolutely love it. I have an FG-365S also but put it up for sale in a local shop as I have decided to pare down to my 2 best guitars - the FG-340 and the Parkwood. We have seen/heard Paul Brady play his FG-180 on Youtube - sounds great. What is the 345II like? Sorry for the hijack, but inquiring minds want to know. Edited: Sorry, that was rude of me. Welcome to the forum! It is nice to have you join us.
  11. Thanks baba! My screen name is that because I ride a Harley and I am a Florida Gator fan. PS. I did wrestle a bear at the local fair many years ago though..................I lost! .....big time. Wow, that is so cool. I have read about stuff like that. I remember reading about a chimpanzee who was undefeated wrestling or boxing. The little guy was only 5 ft tall, but chimps have 3x the strength of humans so no one ever even came close. I also remember watching a video of a bear running full speed up a tree. Those things are frighteningly strong. Great story you got there.
  12. You are all right, HarleyGator - I look forward to seeing you more on the forum. So with a screen name like that should I conclude that you wrestle alligators while riding a Harley?
  13. If your curious try one. Send it back if you don't like it - they pay shipping both ways. I've got a ZAD OM 80. Is it over-priced? Yes. Does it sound and play well? Yes. Do I agree with the BS about Zager's string science? No. You can buy a guitar for less and spend around $65 for a set up(make sure you choose good luthier) and that guitar will play just as good. Am I promoting Zager? No. I tried one and like it. That's just my opinion, maybe I got lucky and got a good one. I would suggest you go to a few different music stores and try a whole bunch out, first. If your still not sure order a Zager and try that out. Send it back if you don't like it. Be prepared to be antagonized by other guitarists, though. I am a closet Zager player. Hmmm...Maybe I can get a different manufacturer's sticker to cover over the Zager logo? Life is too short to worry about coupons..... ROCK ON! Ibanezdtryr, Maximum and TC all seem like decent guys. If they like their guitars and feel they were worth what they paid then they are not dupes and do not deserve to be derided and made to feel like second-class members of the forum. No matter how many times some folks assert that it is only Denny Zager and his business ethics that are being ridiculed I would bet that the legitimate Zager owners (I am not talking about the shills -screw them) feel insulted by some of the comments and general ridicule. And the notion that they shouldn't identify with their guitars is so disingenuous as to be laughable. This site is filled to overflowing with folks who identify with their guitars.
  14. OK. Here's a great article that will tell you everything you need to know. It turns out that what you have is a precursor to a Cort. http://www.vintageguitar.com/brands/details.asp?ID=127
  15. Wow, really nice looking guitar! It reminds me of the Morris. I love that 3-piece back.
