  1. I got a used 50's Classic Vibe Tele for real cheap last week. I hate vintage style tuners, though, so I'm going to replace them soon. Damn E string keeps popping out, and No I don't want to learn how to do it properly.
  2. Dan, I want to point out the irony of this statement: You're pointing out a flaw in the thread instead of just moving on. I'm kidding with you, though. I get exactly what you mean. I wouldn't have a problem with these threads if mbengs participated in them. His threads usually consist of a single post with one or two sentences in a language that is not his first, and his questions are usually quite odd or something you could find by Googling it. Then people flood in with responses, but he's not breaking any rules. When he posts in other threads, he usually has something completely off point or inaccurate. I mean, everyone has their flaws, but it's strange that he's come out of nowhere and just spammed the hell out of the forum recently. It's not something that gets under my skin or upsets me, but it certainly gives me pause because it makes no sense to me. Why does he do these hit and run threads? I'm not insulting or intending to demean him, but it's just strange. I actually want to see more of it just to see if I can unravel the mysteries of mbengs. It's entirely possible that an Admin found an unused account and took it over to post threads without suspicion. I mean, I'm sure Phil or Dendy will come in here and deny it, and I'm not knocking them, but it's possible and it could be entirely in their control or over their heads. Really, I'm kind of excited now. It's facilitating discussion, at least.
  3. I'm hijacking this thread in the name of cookies. Do you have a flag? NO FLAG NO COUNTRY!!! WE HAVE COOKIES!
  4. Yeah, I mean, how often does mbengs actually post in his own threads after asking such questions? Stuff like this is easily found through a simple search. Maybe I'm just grumpy.
  5. New Mexican Fenders are $500 and up. New Squiers are $399 and as low as $99. In the used market, Squiers are much less than MIM. Also, there are MIM Squiers in existence. There are MIJ Squiers as well. Each era has its following and it's because of the value and playability. A guitar is like a hamburger. You can buy a nice one at a restaurant, but there's nothing wrong with the Big Mac.
  6. I wish I could go one day without being reminded how cute Taylor Swift is. And now she's holding a Squier? You can write a bad song about me any day, Taylor. I have been itching for an Affinity Tele. I've had three or four, and a couple of Fenders. I've never had a Squier Standard Tele, though. *Sigh* So many choices and so little money.
  7. Ahh man. I don't own any Squiers right now, but I've owned many. My favorites were my Jagmaster (given to a neighbor), my first Tele (still own the body), a cherryburst standard Strat, and a Mexican Fender/Squier Tele. Now I'm kinda wanting another Tele.
  8. I think what's interesting is that Earl Slick is not a well known guitarist to the majority of music fans, despite his credentials. I had no idea who he was until I opened a Guitar World and saw him in an Eastwood advert. I've still not listened to much of his music, and I'm not a fan of the Lennon or Bowie tracks he played on. With players like Slash or Zakk Wylde, their advert whoring is understandable to a degree because they're big names. Earl Slick, though? I'm not putting him down, but I've never seen a Wylde or Slash brand guitar. They've always had signature models through Gibson and Epiphone. Slick had an expensive Framus, and now has his own brand. That's just really odd to me.
  9. No matter how good of a player he is, I will always remember Earl Slick as the guy who wants to be in every guitar advertisement. If it were anyone else, I would probably love to have one of those guitars...
  10. I just saw these yesterday. They look like cheap knockoffs from the seventies/eighties. That logo looks dated for some reason. That said, I'd love to have one of the LP junior copies.
  11. Skyforger wrote: Oh, and as a point of curiosity/consumer advice, I don't actually own a record player. Anyone recommend a reasonable system to play them on? Would quite like a stand-alone unit since all my cassettes are rubbish and a CD player would be redundant. As I suggested before, Audiotechnics is good and afforable.

I swear to god, it was like a giant hive-mind had been activated. Vinyl was once limited to collectors and oddball enthusiasts and hard-hardcore music afficianados, it then became a 'cultural' thing with hipsters and a nostalgia thing with old timers. The only thing that I can't figure out is how sudden it was. I've seen plenty of 'collector manias' brew, blow-up then die in years past but this one was probably more abrupt than any I've seen in my relatively brief years in this planet. Please get out of my thread. If you don't collect vinyl, you have no place here.
  13. I was really happy with the pickups in my old Ibanez Hollowbody. They were warm, but weren't muddy at all. Check out all of the big names, including Dimarzio. However, I strongly urge you to hold off. Learn to play better, learn more about tone and gear on your own with your own research. You obviously can't trust just anyone on the internet, including this forum. I had been playing for half a year before I got an electric, and I had no idea what a pickup was. I didn't for another couple of months, most likely. I spent my time learning songs.
  14. I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but it sounds like it's from Ultimate Guitar. There are no drawbacks to changing your bridge pickup. However, you just started out, so I wouldn't worry about actually changing things up yet. Worry about playing first. If you really want to do this, consult a tech in person. If you get a bridge humbucker, and you're not sure about the impedance of the single coil and neck, then a tech can help you find one that won't sound out-of-phase with the other pickups. If you're changing one, I'll suggest changing them all. There are H-S-H sets, and if you stick to one brand, like Seymour Duncan, then you should be alright. That's just my opinion based on my experiences, though. You'll find as you get better, and more interested in tone, that you'll want a guitar that comes with good hardware and pickups off the peg. Not all players, even advanced ones, agree with that sentiment, but I know that when I buy a guitar, I want it to be perfect as is.
