    Fender Tube Amps

Agreed with Billy: I wasn't impressed with the HRD and hated the overdrive channel. Heard a few used to good effect as clean platforms with top-notch preamps but they aren't particularly good at the stuff I like most about tube amps (moderate OD, touch sensitivity, chimey cleans, etc.). Also with Yarbicus: The old blue tolex Ampegs are outstanding stage amps, especially if you're looking for moderate-to-medium gain classic rock tones. My buddy & I fixed up a friend's Gemini IV a while back, which I used at a couple of gigs. I made him promise to call me first if he ever decided to sell it. +1 on the Classic 30/50 suggestions. Hard to beat for a budget-priced channel switcher.
  2. Cool mods! I may try the NFB mod on my Vibro Champ. All Champ/VChamp owners should check the amp's bias. Both my Vibro Champ & the Champ head I built passed WAY too much current through the 6V6 stock. I nearly doubled the cathode resistor & changed the 25/25 bypass cap to a 25/50. Both now pass 26-28 ma & sound much better, particularly when overdriven (smoother, sweeter).
  3. After hearing my playing the shops around here won't even sell me an amp. Thats the real reason why I had to build my own. Yeah, these parts are for old RADIOS. Thats the ticket. Actually it wasn't so much my technique they objected to. I just didn't know any songs by the "cool" bands.

My next door neighbor ran his all the time with a big antenna that was ~40" from my computer, amps, TV, etc. Never had any problems.
