  1. This I have used 12 and 13's on my Martins, without and issue. I did have to tweak the truss rod. Watch the humidity levels too, acoustics will dry out in the winter big time. I just gave 4 acoustics a drink. I mostly used d'Addario. I have some Martin extended life stings on 2 martins. 13's on a HD 28 for a little more bluegrassy boom. If the nut was cut a bit light for 13's, 12's could have sent it over the edge. However that would be weird with a capo that is sitting on the guitar properly. If you do have to play with nut, and file it, it is 2-3 strokes. A bit more with bone. The bridge might even need to come u a bit. A luthier will tell you in seconds. Without anyone actually looking at it Free advise is just that. Including mine. Good luck.
  2. The U.S. Fender banjos were manufactured in California and came from the Salstrom Banjo Co. in Oregon, Illinois. The three model names carried over from Salstrom which Fender bought in the mid-1960's. Like starting in 1968. By the early 70's Fender was done with American made banjo. Roy Ayres was Director of String Instrument Development in the 60's, I would say like 1961-1962. I'm not saying it is not a prototype or something, but it could have been, before the Salstrom buyout. I have seen resonator backs as well as open back Fender banjos. A photo or 2 would have helped. If Tom ever comes back. Both American made Fender and Salstrom from the 60's are worth a bit of coin. I know a few folks that play banjo.

    nice guitar, I must say.
  5. OM are probably my fav. Glad you like, and it came out well.
  6. same with me. I hydrate a few in the dead of winter. I have a few ES guitars and Hollow-bodies. I really watch my Gibson F5G, as its a full carves top Dave Harvey grabbed me one from the Gibson Show room). Same with a Flatiron A mandolin that I have had for 30 years. Zero issues The best thing I have found for a hydration system is a travel soap box, with a damp sponge. They are cheap and work. Drill a few holes in the soapbox and every 2 weeks just check things out, if you not playing that guitar for a while. Works for acoustics guitars too. I have no instruments that are over 50 years old, and no amps that are over 40 years old. So far it has worked.
  7. ITS CALIFORNIA PREMISES AFTER 30 YEARS.. https://guitar.com/news/gear-news/fulltone-rumoured-shutting-down-california/ I have a OCD, a Full Drive 2 and an Old Super Trem with the big knobs. The Full-Drive 2 is my favorite OD ever. Not to much gain and adds some nice over drive tones to compliment a cleaner amp like a blackface Fender. All good things come to an end, I guess.
  8. D'Addario XL(10-46) on my electrics Martin, I have 2 Martin guitars right now with coated strings, but I most go with D'Addario They are either Phosphorus Bronze or 80/20. 12 to 53. Nothing super heavy on the bottom ends. Their coated string are pretty good too, but will cost ya. Ernie Ball Slinkys, I have used, but I normal go with the D'Addarios these days I also like the Chromes on a couple of Jazz boxes I have. I believe the are 13's. Mandolins I also use D'Addarios. Electrics and acoustic I just by the Pro Packs or what ever they call the 10 sets now. You save a bit of money, buying in bulk. They also have a 25 set shop bulk pack but they are not vacuumed sealed. I once kept a set of Elxirs on a bar gig acoustic on for a year. It became a challenge to see how long they would go before the became total crap and frayed. I do think I broke a few along the way and some one string frayed so badly it needed to be changed. Talk about being cheap. Hell, 6 bucks is 6 bucks.
  9. I like musicians friend and. I have done biz here and there with s couple of guys at the MF Private Reserve. They treat me extremely well. They will send me photos and do overnight shipping. Of coarse by the time I call them, I'm not trying stuff out or kicking tires. I haven't brought strat since the 80's and have 4 of them. Probably all I will need in my lifetime. I haven't been in a GC in ten years or more. That's my experience, and yours may differ.
  10. I really have no favorite. I like everything, from les paul to sg's es guitars too Ricks And Tele's and Strats. The tons I look for should represent the classic sound of the guitar. I play a lot acoustic to
  11. The Marshall jcm 800 is a killer rock and roll classic . I bought the 50 watt combo 40 years ago and still have it.
  12. I was test driving a few amps about 10 years ago and played a Bogner Dhiva. Damn thing sounded incredible. Freaking expensive too. I own a. Dr Z Maz 18 combo that sounds really nice. I realy like the off the shelf Fender 65 deluxe reissue. Good enough for government work, as they say.
