  1. haha I love flame wars. The best part is when someone tries to convey their thoughts logically and gramatically correct, and then the other dude come back with brilliant well though out statements like... "I mean look at you {censored}ing losers..." "you REALLY are complete {censored}ing losers..." "you're the same {censored}ing losers from..." "you guys are {censored}ing losers..." http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22337343&postcount=36 I love it!
  2. if a newbie were to read his post, and then read from everyone that it is stupid, they might not even try the things that were said. " If a newbie ends up reading this post, it's beneficial to have others point out the mistakes so they don't go off assuming what they read was correct. I agree with you, sometimes things can get out of hand, but in this case I don't see it.
  3. You make a lot of good points, but you forgot two important things. Do you have the gear to master the track correctly, and more importantly, do you have the experience? If the answer is no, you're better off sending it to someone who does.
  4. I've encoded most of my favorite cd's at 192kbps into itunes. I can always tell a difference going back to the cd though. The mp3's just lack that last bit of clarity and definition in the high and low end. The only ones that I can't really tell much of a difference between are the ones that didn't have that to begin with.

Anything less than extreme settings I can't tell the difference. Can you give us a rundown of what's in your signal chain? What kind of compressor are you using? Hardware, software? What are you recording?
  6. What are you using to compress the signal? A good transparent compressor shouldn't add anything noticable to the signal, but simply smooth out the dynamics.
