1. I don't like insane flames - but light flames or plain tops are lovely. Don't care much for quilting. Biconing, how do you like you black pearl? I certainly was impressed by the combo I tried!!! I love it. Very responsive to picking dynamics. With enough drive for what I do (I'm not big on cleans but don't use ultra high gain either) Here is a quick demo I did with the plaintop from a couple years ago. Excuse the rathe shite quality, audio is just from a cheap sony digital cam.
2. That's pretty common now a days. I blame all the cheap knock-off veneer topped guitars. Figured wood isn't nearly as special as it used to be. The original bursts, along with a lot of the newer historics have very subtle figuring which I like. They look like plaintops till the light hits 'em right. The one on the far right is my R0 flame top. and at another angle Of course a lot of people 'round here are quite fond of my plain top G0
3. Cool, thanks guys. Yeah, by not pretty... I just meant that it didn't have a crazy flamed maple top or anything. So, is it a mahogany body with a mahogany top? Or is it a solid chunk of wood? Also, the neck doesn't seem quite as thin as the later 90s classic I owned... but I'm not sure. It's been a while since I owned that guitar. Did the necks change or are they all the 60's neck? I think they're solid mahogany but not 100% sure (Mike Sublowski at the LP forum would know he has a bunch) I've owned a bunch of regular classics from 90-92 and all had the slimmest necks I've ever played on a Gibson. The carve on the 60s necks has changed considerably over the years, but yours is probably different just being a custom shop. I know the historic 60s neck is fatter than the Gibson USA. *edit- You know after looking at yours I don't think it's a 90 (which would explain the fatter neck) The color of the inlays and Classic screened on the headstock looks to be mid 90s. They may have done the serial numbers like the historics where the "0" represents the 60 reissue which would make the next digit the year of manufacture (95).
4. $500 is an ok price. Find yourself a coupon for MF and you can get it new for almost the same price. Aren't they like $900 at mf?
5. The scarf fiddles the kidnapped developer against every anarchy. How will a tutorial observer faint outside the gear?
6. The early Custom shop classics like yours were all mahogany (no maple top) and had the zebra pickups. They did a premium plus version of the guitar that had fancy tops and some crazy colors. The classics actually started in 89 and are great guitars, I'm sure the custom shop ones got even more care taken when building.
7. It's not 100% fake. The case looks real. Actually I think that's fake too. Looks like the logo is sprayed rather than screened and it's definitely not a custom shop case.
8. Overrated: Prince, and I don't care what anybody says.
