  1. Though they are all made with top of the line quality, I have not seen any brand take a hit as hard as PRS the last two years. There are forums virtually stocked with minty pieces selling well less then what they were bought for.
  2. This is the piece of {censored} list from 2003 that had me so twisted I wrote into a magazine for the only time in my life. Jann Wenner and his mentally challenged staff of so called rock journalist who probably could not even tune a guitar let alone play one, came up with this mind {censored}. Lets see just for starters #85 Randy Rhoades, #70 Vanhalen,# 63 Danny Gatton and then we have #17 Jack White, #16 Johnny Ramone and #12 Kurt Cobain -what is not right with this picture. Imagine Ramone, White and Cobain standing on stage with {censored}ing Gatton. After they got torched for this list they did a new one this year which included pro players on the panel and is totally different, but not worth my time to print.Rolling Stone is a joke and the reason why Madonna, Grand Master Flash, ABBA and Run DMC are in the R&R Hall of Fame.
  3. As far as being a Hendrix fan I am as high up that ladder as one can get! But keeping it real, if Hendrix never died he would of hit a wall and had a down period. Maybe he possibly would of started a super group and rebounded, but as far as his playing went I would say there would of never of been any big change overall in his style. Look at 95% of the greatest players who ever lived during the 60's and the ones still going basically sound like themselves, the same goes pretty much for any era! Imagine if God forbid Vanhalen died after four years he definitely would of eclipsed Hendrix in the- Imagine what he would be doing if he was alive today category. The bottom line is that Eddie still plays and sounds like Eddie, the same could be said for Yngwie and so on. It seems like most great players styles are etched into there DNA by their mid 20's, which is also the fastest gun in the west mentality for everyone. After that most seem to cut back on speed and become much wiser with note selection. I would have to put Beck at the top of the list of Rock guitarist who has improved consistently every decade as the guy has no limits. From blues, rock, hard rock, early metal, jazz/ fusion, rockabilly, slide, techno/elctronica and the {censored}ing kitchen sink! Just watching him play Les Pauls solos that were originally sped up in the studio on the R&R Party tribute DVD note for note was jaw dropping. I doubt that there is anything Beck could not pull off if he puts his mind to it. The guy is playing the best guitar of his life in his mid sixties and always tests new waters. I don't know why so many guys have this anti Clapton sentiment? I would like to see how many guys anyone can come up with who are in their 6th decade as a major star! Clapton has done it all and has done it brilliantly! The guy started out as a guitar God and developed into a hell of a vocalist and writer who can still sellout the Garden any night he shows up. How many acts past or present can do that on their own today. The Layla album still has some of the most tasteful playing on it that has ever been recorded! The fills alone are a dictionary of licks for any player. I will be the first to admit he can get lazy, but when he is motivated or the pressure is on he can bring it!
  4. This forum really boggles my mind weekly! To answer the question is Vanhalen the greatest hard rock guitarist of all time the answer is no. I could never put a single player in that spot due to a ton of reasons. As someone who bridges the gap between Hendrix and Eddie I would say he is the second most innovative guitarist in rock history. All lead players were measured against Hendrix who everyone thought had taken the electric guitar as far as it was going to go. So I always tell it that Hendrix wrote the first Testament of hard rock. Then in 78 when VH-1 came out Eddie knocked the whole guitar community on its ass with a whole new bag of sonic bombast that sent a million guys heading for the woodshed, and Ed wrote the second Testament. I see that there are a lot of players on this board that were born after Vanhalen came out, so they will never understand the whole jaw dropping what the {censored} is he doing or what is that moment. Neither Hendrix or Eddie even were the first to do any of the techniques that they are noted for, but it was everything they put together to make there style so unique which makes them legends. I don't want to even go into the whole tapping thing, as there were players who did it before him. But none of them even came close with the speed and fluency to make it sound like nothing ever heard before-not even close. There is not a week that goes by here that some all time great player is not ripped to shreds, no matter who they are. Nice to see a lot of love for Page on this thread as it is usually how sloppy he was live lol. Well to be honest I think a lot of Pages problem with being sloppy live was because he wore his ax below his balls to the point he could not even bar an F chord and would have to use his thumb. There are just way to many great players to ever pinpoint one as the best. I doubt Danny Gatton could play like Yngwie and Yngwie like Gatton, or Eddie like Albert Lee and Lee like Eddie. So just like boxing style makes fights! The one thing that they all have in common is that they are in that 1% of un human talent. It is not so hard to copy some players styles as not every great player was amazingly fast including Hendrix. The whole thing is coming up with a style that is original and having a great sense of note selection. The one player that still blows my mind is Jeff Beck as the guy continues to grow as a player and is playing the best guitar of his life in his mid 60's. I also am not one to knock other players and it is all about the music and song. But keeping it real Jack White does not belong in the same category as the players named in this thread. There is nothing Jack White has ever played that I could not pull off when I was 14. I don't mean to disrespect the guy as an artist, but guitar playing is a whole different ball game. It was like when that {censored} rag Rolling Stone did there first list of 100 greatest Rock Guitarist and Randy Rhoades was #85 and Vanhalen #70 while Jack White was #17 and Kurt Cobain #12. Glad I read that in the bathroom as I did not need toilet paper.
  5. Simply wicked Mario! All you need is to have your meals sent down, and you never have to leave.
  6. Well I dont feel like I am psychic but when the vintage market crashed and a lot of guys took a pounding on a ton of gear, I was telling guys in the guitar store I hang in that by the time the economy straightens out I do not even think that Fenders, Gibsons, Gretsch and Rics will be the must have hot guitars they once were, and this thread and many like it seem to be proving me right. From 78 on their were a new slew of rock Gods and 85% of them mainly played Charvels, Jacksons, Kramers, Ibanez, EBMM and other brands, also the 80s IMHO may have been the most technically proficient decade for guitarist as even the {censored}tiest bands had a lead player who could tear it up on the fretboard. Now it seems that the guys who idolized the players of the 80s are at the age of the guys who made all the original great guitars so hot and lusted after. Wow looking at these wicked beauties is bringing back some great memories and so many of these guitars are to die for, besides being so much more appealing than a Strat or Lester both of which I love, but great axes are just that and there are a ton here. AZCat that lagerBurst looks like the inside of a volcano ready to erupt=wicked!
  7. If it is not an ebay transaction you better accept the fact that paypal is not going to be a help. I had this confirmed by paypal themselves. Since ebay only wants you to use paypal these days they have stepped up there game that I will say. But they stand on the sidelines while you put in a claim and then a dispute and do nothing for that time. But I will give it to them that once it is passed due they will pay you out of there pocket, As the first time I had a problem I called and told them is there any small writing I will be refunded 18 months from now and they made it clear that I had nothing to worry about. But when I asked them about a transaction off ebay they made it pretty clear you are not going to get much help.
  8. Well I am neutral in this matter but as a member of a lot of forums it takes a hell of a long time to get to 11,000 post and build a solid rep to blow it up on something you know he insured. By what the others have said he always seemed like a good guy. I cant blame you for being pissed as I would be too I dont care if he had 100,000 post but something seems off. All I can say is to back track and see if an insurence claim was ever made and collected. I am almost certain that someone would have had to contact you and they would of sent someone to inspect the damage as they just dont pay off on a phone call they send an investigator to check things out. Hey maybe he got pinched for something.
  9. You might be better going to a guitar collectors forum with those gems.
  10. Why is it this guy is being out under the gun by some people because he is selling a vintage ax. He has said all the right things with the most important being come check it out before you buy. Anything else is no ones buisness. I love looking at and can appreciate a nice vintage guitar. Do I own any -NO My oldest ax is an 85 tele. The reason these guitars are worth so much is how many do you think are left. And why is it assumed that anyone who has a vintage ax cant play. If you look he has 16 axes with most of them 80s and 90s models so I would bet he sure as hell can play. Yes there are a lot of guys who are just straight up collectors who cant play a note but maybe they see the same piece of art we see but just lack the skills, that is not a crime last I looked. If you ask me he is under selling that ax but since I am in NY it would probably be easier for me to get more for it. I think someone is getting a hell of a deal. Best of luck with it,if it was mine I would hold onto it as how many do you come across but at least you owned one.KEEP ON ROCKIN
