  1. I might be looking for something that looks better than that silly gimmicky supersonic and comes with two humbuckers that can get me as close as possible to the sound of an sg or les paul, without losing the playability and comfyness of a fender neck and 'countoured' light weight body... That pretty much narrows it down to a blacktop jaguar hh and a hh strat...So should I put aside my aversion for the shorter scale of the jag, or will do the strat do just as good at mimicking lp/sg type tones? I know the title suggests I'm a hige noob. I'm not. I've decided I should stop trying to convince myself I can get into gibsons though. I keep buying and selling em again. I figured I still love the way they sound, I just always keep going back to my fenders, with the un-sticky necks, comfortable body shapes, etc... Cheers.
  2. Don't know if you ever tried any of these: - '72 tele custom. AVri or an actual 70s one. - Upgraded epi sheraton/riviera, or some other mid-priced decent 335 type. Tokai ES60 comes to mind as well, and those 80s ibanez ones seem to have a great reputation too. I'm a big jazzmaster fan btw...What was it exactly you didn't like about the one you tried? Anyway, picking an electric guitar without knowing which type you prefer isn't all that hard impo. There's a handful of criteria that could narrow it down, other than your budget...Neck profile, fret size, solid vs (semi)hollow body, hb vs sc, set neck vs bolt-on, aesthetic preferences,...
  3. WTB: Fender Jazzmaster neck. And Jaguar parts. Everything, except for the body and neck.
  4. 12" Fender Eminence speaker that came with my old Twin Reverb. Don't know much about it, except that it's 8ohm and in great condition. And don't let this fool you into thinking it's crap/broke, but you can have it for free. For the price of s&h that is:) It's been gathering dust for the last 5 years, the g/f wants me to clean out all my old {censored}, so it's your lucky day if you're building a cab or replacing your amp's speaker or whatever.
  5. I'm into half stacks, my first choice for an all purpose combo would be something along the lines of a Mesa Lonestar or Matchless DC30. If I were filthy rich that is. Just got this one Planning/hoping to sell this one next week
  6. Don't have much I want to get rid of atm, so here's some reverse-spam... Anyone who happens to own a Peavey Classic 100 head: Sell it to me!
  7. For all the glory of and simplicity of the guitar straight to Marshall goodness, Malcolm reported used Amplitube 2 on 2 tracks of Black Ice... http://www.ikmultimedia.com/amplitube/testimonials/NewsDisplay.php?Id=1994 That being said, can't wait to see them in all their glory on Nov 2 in Dallas! I'm not saying it's impossible that he actually uses amplitube, but I bet he'd say he's a big fan of for instance Guitar Rig 3 if he had a contract with them instead of with ik multimedia. Disguised endorsement, very clever.
  8. Looking for some sort of relic strat.
  9. I have no experience with re-amping, I usually just put in the work to get everything right in the recording process. If a tracks need something extra I just use software effects and plug-ins like Guitar Rig... I'd like to try to re-amp a guitar track, just as an experiment. But I'm not sure it's as simple as I think it is... I tought I could playback the track and hook up the output of my interface to my guitar amp (in stead of just mic'ing my monitors)...And record that with a nice mic. Is that even possible, won't there be somekind of impedance mismatch or something? I guess the 'line level' output on my interface isn't right for a guitar amp...Right? Don't tell me I need one of those pricey reverse di boxes for that please:(
