1. Please report back! I thought these are just another MIC TS-ish drive pedal. It's been a while since I had mine, an original ODR-1 (Green) and an ODR-S. I preferred the ODR-1, particularly as a clean boost or light overdrive. It did not have the nasal sound that my TS-9 and TS9DX had prior to modding. It also cost much less than the Ibanez. I paid $30 or $40 for the ODR-1 brand new. IIRC, it also allowed me to hear the guitar's tone. Plenty of overdrives -particularly the cheapest ones- seem to take over and impart their own tone. In this regard the ODR-1 was more transparent. I never tried the silver one or the newer ones, just had the original ODR-1 and ODR-S.
2. I reported him to Amazon about a week ago. Sorry, I don't remember which link I used to send feedback. Haven't seen it make a difference, anyway. He does state on his sale link that the guitar is a "replica," but that doesn't make it OK to sell counterfeits. And a big issue is that in some pages there's no mention about them being replicas. Everything is set up as though these were the real guitars at low prices. Only through some links is there mention of the guitars being replicas. And indeed it's a good idea to report it to Gibson (and others) as well.
3. I noticed that douchebag's listing for the Ibby a week or so ago. How did you contact Amazon re: these obvious counterfeits? When I canceled my order there was an option to send them feedback. They never replied, though. I don't doubt that some person will fall for this scam unless Amazon takes action against the seller, or they advertise the instruments for what they are, replicas.
4. Just a warning. I went to Amazon and bought a Gibson 1958 Les Paul Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar, Faded Tobacco for $1130, instead of the $3700 street price. Nice deal, and everything looked legit. I've gotten great discounts from Amazon. The problem? I originally was interested in a different guitar, the price was also very low compared to the market, so I asked the seller if their guitars were new, came with a case, and so on. The response was that the guitars were new, unplayed, and that I should check for more information in the seller's description. Interestingly, this information is not present in some links, but in essence they mention that it is a good quality replica that takes between 4 to 6 weeks to be delivered. The page I visited had the official description from Gibson, said it was for the Gibson Custom Shop, showed the list price of $5,174.00, and so on. Similarly for the other guitar, it says it's from Ibanez, list price is $3,466.65, and everything on that link looks likes it's the real deal at the bargain price of $1050. As soon as I found this information I canceled my order and contacted Amazon about it (and never heard back). I don't know if this has been covered here, but wanted to warn potential buyers to make sure they're not getting a fake. http://www.amazon.com/shops/AKOEJIQC3X57D If you go through that link, everything looks official. For example, the Fender Artist Series Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster Electric Guitar 3-Tone. If, on the other hand, you search "Fender Artist Series Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster Electric Guitar 3-Tone," click the result (a $1700 guitar), click "4 new from $1329," under Seller Information you'll find: "*NEW IN BOX.* Please Read! Shipping takes 3-4 weeks. Though very similar to the original model, this is an extremely high quality replica" The replica part is hidden until you select "Read more"
5. I would like to have you in a room with a bunch of tube amps, SS amps and a couple good digital effects pedals and blind fold you and see how many you could pick out. There are some here that could get over 60% but I bet not too many. And a person could get 50% just by guessing. Even having all tube amps some will sound good and some will sound bad. At an amp shootout I attended they had over 50 tube amps, from the 50s to modern stuff. Probably a handful sounded great, including a Dumble, a vintage Gibson, a vintage Vox, and a Marshall. Most of my amps have been tube amps and I've liked them, starting with a JCM-800 in the 90s, but my favorite is still the zenTera.
6. Try Axe FX or an H&K zenTera. I've had good tube amps and and the zenTera sounds better. Has all the feel too. Exactly. Before I got my zenTera I asked a guy who builds tube amps for his advise. He recommended the zenTera. Two other people I know that had a zenTera owned music stores and had access to any tube amp they wanted, yet they chose a zenTera as their personal amp. But what would HC be without this type of threads?
7. and gracious people you could ever hope to meet. They also respect women, at least to the point where they don't talk about their pussies to the press... I think that these days we have access to more information, but some of the people you mention probably have a few sordid stories to tell. Hendrix even had a sex tape before sex tapes were trendy And Slash's girlfriend was "immortalized" by Axl. IIRC, he had sex with her in the studio, recorded the act, and their sex sounds are in one of the songs in Appetite for Destruction. Harrison was a horny guy. I think that he either slept or tried to sleep with Paula, Pattie Boyd's sister. So maybe they don't go to the press, but who knows what the do or did behind closed doors. Some may be cool and humble indeed
8. In addition to timing an rhythm, I love when guitar players use interesting chords and sounds.
9. PG was never really interested in being a household name. It was him (prob drug fuelled) who wanted to break the band up and give all the money away! It's all explained in the video I posted on the previous page. Actually, in the series, since the video is the first of 12. On the DVD they also show Peter with his current guitars, and he talks a bit about them. I don't know if that's included in the YouTube videos.
10. A good place to start:
11. If the search function eventually works, check out a couple of old threads abut PG. Definitely worth reading and watching the videos.
12. yes, his signature tele is a hohner. but what pedals and more importantly; what settings and what amp? It's a few years old, but maybe there are updates elsewhere in that site: http://prince.org/msg/15/136729
13. holy crap, that was awesome~ thank you, Frets! no doubt at all, Prince is a monster player. I want that tone. seriously. Any idea what he was putting that MIJ Signature Tele through? He uses Hohner Teles and Boss pedals.
14. I never realized that Prince was such a beast on guitar. I watched this and my jaw dropped open. By far, one of the best performances I've seen. When I saw him in concert, for the second part of the show he came out with just an acoustic guitar (purple), and started playing some blues. He was able to capture the audience's attention with just his acoustic guitar, after we had experienced his amazing band with guitars, drums, bass, sax (Candy Dulfer and Maceo Parker IIRC), background singers, etc. Incredible guy!
