  1. Is that a piece of cuff link as a string lock? Quite possibly. That guitar is about 30 years old. It has been jury rigged so many times I'm surprised it's still alive. It was like the third guitar I ever owned and is the only one of those from the old days that I still have and won't get rid of for sentimental reasons...
  2. Awesome USA Soloist! Here's my green. This is the Charvel Grover Jackson built for me in '79 after VH2 came out. I was obsessed with EVH and went down to San Dimas with my father to have him build me a new guitar. He and his very attractive wife were nicer than you could imagine, but I was quite disappointed when I saw that their workshop was building a bunch of Eddie clones and I wasn't the only one. Grover refused to allow a Charvel sticker on the guitar because I was using a Mighty Mite neck and (I think, at the time it was built) a Bad Ass bridge...
  3. You just figuring this out? Modelling is still years away from competing tone/feel-wise with a real tube amplifier. I only have tube amps, but your statement is just not true. Solid-state amps are light years ahead of where they were just ten years ago. Blind tests have even been conducted recently where so-called 'experts' and 'purists' would consistently get it wrong when asked, "Is it solid-state or tube?" Some of the ones I've played through recently have blown me away. The only time I can really tell a big difference currently is when overdriving little 3-5 watt tube and solid-state amps...
  4. One of the coolest of the original gun slingers. Great rhythm chops. Insane lead chops. TRULY revived electric-guitar playing when it was stagnating in the late '70s. I'm biased, as he was my absolute hero growing up. He's disappointed me tremendously in his later years. Regardless, he is a true icon. I've always likened some of his best solos to running as fast as you can, legs fumbling and almost falling down, but catching yourself and carrying it out. Does that make any sense? (Also, he never used a vibrato as an emergency brake, as so many lesser guitarists seemed to do. It was always tasteful. 'I'll Wait' is an excellent example...)
  5. When I was a little tyke in 1979, I saved up a bunch of money. I was obsessed with EVH and my father drove me to San Demis. We met with Grover Jackson and his wife (who had nice, large breasts that were quite attractive). I picked out my mahogany guitar body (I'd already purchased a Mighty Mite neck) and chose the tape sizes I wanted for the paint job. I still have the guitar and it's still awesome. I'll post some photos tomorrow...
