  1. I don't believe in an angry God. That's the best thing I've ever read in this forum or any forum. That's fantastic.
  2. Who said anything about liking it? I hate that song too. I'd venture that you read the meaning of the song loud and clear. Bird is the Word means the same thing as a woodpecker drumming on a tree. It's a mating call for a lesser species: People with bad taste in music. Or teenagers. And that's what all popular music is - one kind of mating call or another. It's all about doing it. People get high-minded and pretend it isn't.
  3. Words... yeah. Lotsa songwriters seem to get hung up on this crazy idea that need to mean something literal on their own. Words only need to make sense in the context of the song. That's it. Bird is the Word is babble if you're just saying it. But if you're sing-saying to a sticky melody and rockin beat - you're conveying a buncha meaning. Words are just a small slice of how people communicate. They're that way in songs. They're that way in talking. You have to make sense of them looking at the whole way someone is using them.
  4. My story is as boring as anyone elses. I grew up loving music and wanted to express myself and impress girls. I like the way Bob Dylan describes how he started writing. He said he moved away from traditionals to things like "Song For Woody" because it said things that just needed to be said. He HAD to write. I think anone who dabbles in creativity should understand what that feels like. And he doesn't even take credit for writing the masterpieces of his early 20s - he says they were already there and he just channeled them. It was like some Holy Ghost moved him to unearth these artifacts that - he claims - if he didn't dig up, someone else would. It's probably all bull{censored}, but I love how he gets all mystical about the creative spark.
