  1. Read my post, I think that you mis-eard me ( tip: if you break out your 4th grade spelling bee trophy; make sure that you spell your {censored} correctly). First off, I said ESP/LTD's, because I haven't seen any Edwards locally. They're both made by the same people and that's all I've had for comparison. And this is the ugly whore that I was talking about: Could that be any cheesier? They have a lot of other crappy finishes with EMG's in them. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-LTD-Deluxe-EC1000-Electric-Guitar?sku=516629 They do have one that has SD's in it: And it's covered in that horrid multi-colored cheap {censored} binding. And as for my spelling of an LP; well that's just because I say L-P in my head when I type it. Thanks for paying a lot of attention to {censored} that really doesn't matter; I'm sure that I'll continue to do it for the foreseeable future. You got me on schecter; I guess that shows how much I think of them. And yes; that Edwards is pretty nice looking. Too bad they break too many trademarks/copyrights to be sold here in the states. I am a DieHard Gibson guy...... but I have to say, those ESP LTDs are nice guitars. I have previously owned a Viper 400 and EC400, both were solid guitars. I didn't bond with the sterile EMG 81/85s in the Viper or 60/81s in the EC, but the guitars felt solid, had nice rosewood boards, earvana compensated nut, 24 frets, just really nice guitars for the $$$. Back then both were under $500. For under $500, if I could have the EC with the Seymour Duncans I don't know where it could have led. Of course, that was a few years ago, the Carvins, Korean Fender FMT HHs and Ibanez Prestiges I have picked up since have not felt as good to me as they did back then, so maybe I wouldn't like the ESPs anymore either? Back then I would have sworn up and down that my Fender Showmaster and Telecaster FMT HHs, Ibanez RGA121s, & Carvin DC400s blew away any Gibson. I remember having a particular foindness for the Telecaster FMT HH, only sold it because it didn't have 24 frets, funny thing is, none of my guitars now have 24 frets. Also, for a while, I only owned 3 Carvins, no other brand, but that was a phase too. With any brand, especially since guitars are largely hand made, quality control is going to vary, but manufacturer warranties and a decent set-up can get 90% of them in the very good range. There is always that 10% that just don't make it all the way, so a liberal return policy is nice.
  2. How do you think Gibsons and Fenders sound the way they do? Is it their special wood that no one else uses? their special glue or paint? Is it their unique hardware? Is it the manufacturing process? NOPE - its opinion and taste. PRS's sound thin because that's what Paul was going for - a guitar that is diverse in many ways that wasn't the Gibson or Fender sound. as far as $3000.00 for an Ibanez Jem - that would be insane!! they are just enhanced RG320's with a vine inlay. Didn't say I'd do that either and my PRS was bought used also not worth $2500.00 IMHO. Les Paul was looking for a sound, he got it - like 50 yrs ago and YES that tone can be found anywhere. Same with Leo's tone. So there - Nah! You sound like a 46 year old guy like me:lol: Check out my post in another thread, I gave you some great advice on an amp in the $500 range.
  3. Beating a dead horse is what we do. the real issue here is consistency. Gibson is obviously notorious for it's lack of consistency. to me it's also a price thing. I understand the wanting to have the guitar of your heros but back in the day there weren't any other good guitars but Gibson's and Fender for the most part. Nowadays there are so many solid players out there that SOUND as good as Gibsons ( shut up with that Gibson sounds better than anything else - that's your opinion because you bought your "wannabe" guitar) Now - I understand that a full 3/4" maple cap is worth more in tonality and looks than a veneer top, so some increase in price is understandable. No guitar unless owned by someone and signed is worth more than $1700.00!! NONE. Something like an Agile AL4000M with a full maple cap costs $899.00 - too much IMO for a Korean guitar but that same guitar made in America should cost $1500.00 to $1700.00 but no more. So here I am babbling about price - reality is Gibson is still riding the ole days and there quality control from day to day is suspect so IMO - buy something else. No you shut up:lol: Seriously, I have played everything and IMHO Gibsons and Fenders sound superior to everything else that is production. Sure, some small Custom Shop luthiers use great woods and great pick-ups, but you will pay for it. However, I have found that Gibson and Fender sound the best to me. You can spend $3000+ for a PRS or a Ibanez Jem, but they sound thin in comparison IMO. Sure, if you play death metal and scoop out the mids, it doesn't really matter what you play, the amp will get your sounds.
  4. Yes, as has been established a thousand times, Gibson QC can be spotty. We've all seen good ones and bad ones and we've exhausted this topic. So here are your options: a) play a whole bunch of Gibsons until you find a good one. b) buy something else /thread, please? Exactly! Nothing else sounds like a Gibson, even a bad Gibson will sound better than a good Copy out of the box. BTW, I am talking about fairly high end Gibsons, not the cheaper under $1000 ones. However, a bad Gibson just might not have the playability without a proper set-up, or in a worse case, even after a good set-up. I currently have 5 Gibsons. None had great playability out of the box, they sounded great, but were a bear to play. After a $35 professional set-up all I currently own are GREAT sounding and have great playability. However, the same goes for every Fender I have bought and any other guitar for that matter. Quality Control, the guitar ships all over the world, through varying climates, going from hot to cold to warm to cool.... It is wood, things change. The guitar will still sound great, but it might not play as well as it should. Spend $50 and make it perfect for you. I have also owned ESPs, Ibanez Prestiges, Carvins, Fenders, you name it. Notice I have 5 Gibsons and 2 Fenders. I must like {censored}ty guitars. With that said, I bought a New Gibson Traditional Plus that I did not like the playability after a good set-up, the high E string was too far over on the fretboard for my liking. I sent it back to Gibson and they sent me a new one set up how I like it, free of charge.
  5. I had one, pretty good but cheesily made as people noted above. I have a fender keychain/bottle opener/strobe tuner (just does e, though) that I like a lot more for its versatility. To be honest, I'd rather tune by ear or a normal tuner than either one under most circumstances. They're cool toys, though. Just low "e" would be fine for me in most cases at home, but then I couldn't tune silently in the middle of a tune. What do you guys think is quicker, the Pick strobe tuner or a clip on chromatic?
  6. Here is my main reason for wanting it..... Sometimes I'll be jamming at home and I'll hear that my guitar tuning is off. Maybe I did too radical of a bend on one of the notes? So, while the jam to music is going I start trying to tune my instrument, this would be nice because I would be able to turn down my guitar and use this visually. Would a clip-on be better for this application?
  7. Never used one, but i have read it only works in E-standard tunings. can you guys who own one verify if this is true? That is true and that is just fine with me. I still think I might like the Planet Waves Clip-on tuner better though.
  8. For what I want to use it for it sounds perfect, thanks! For intonation I would get a Clip-on
  9. Has anyone tried the Planet Waves SOS Strobe Pick Tuner? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is the little $14.95 pick sized Strobe tuner. Seems alot more convenient than having another pedal like a Boss TU-2. I am thinking about this or the Planet Waves Clip-On Chromatic tuner for $29.95. For those prices I should buy both and use the Clip-on for if I ever need to tweak my intonation, I have never done that in my life. But, for quick tuning on the fly which do you all prefer? Portability is key here.
  10. I have a 1999 Fender American Deluxe Strat I could trade you. It is Rare Transparent White (you can see the wood grain) Maple board Stock Locking Tuners Vintage Noiseless Pick-ups Just had it professionally set-up 2 weeks ago with 9-42s At the same time they cleaned and dressed each fret.
  11. How are the frets? What gauge strings is it set up with? Why is the back of the neck so worn, lots of playing or did he sand it? I have what he wants as a trade, I just don't know if I can part with it. Let's get the process started with those questions and go from there. Howard
