Wanting the same standard of living as your folks makes sense. I live waaaay below my parent's standard of living. my wife and I have had the conversation and come to realize we will never make as much as our parents. they aren't rich either. Her dad is a landlord and mine is a school administrator. I'm a teacher and she's a cytologist. There just isn't the same upward mobility and I just don't see myself in the private sector.
