  1. yep. i spend most of my time on another guitar forum. its a fantastic community and pretty close-knit. lots of really valuable sharing of information. when someone joins up who's just there to sell something or make trouble, they get run off pretty quickly. here, someone can make a thread or a post that blatantly insults all the other members, and the mods do nothing. its one thing to disagree, but to make blanket insults and just keep doing it to rile people up, well, the sense of community and decorum deteriorates pretty rapidly. I could name at least a dozen like that. I just ignore them or actually put them on ignore. If everyone ignored them, they would change their attitude or simple leave.
  2. I blame the mods. They do nothing when people put up obvious troll threads. For a forum to thrive and be useful, the mods gotta do their thing. They're not. I think this is getting close to one of the major problems. I spend quite a bit of time at GuitarsCanada (GC) and the mods there shut threads down immediately when it gets ugly and if's only happened a handful of times in the last 5 years. Rules there mean something; here, not so much IMHO.
  3. In the end, if the music is crap, it's crap, regardless of what genre it is. You show me a Soulja Boy, I'll show you a Nickelback. Fair enough? Very fair.
  4. several rappers have more musical talent than anyone on this board. Fact. That is true, for sure. But for me, rap is terrible music. The reason the music industry pushed is because it is one of the easiest genres to produce and made/makes more money than real music in relation to time and energy put into the end results. That too is fact. Another fact is that if I had that much talent, there is no way I would stoop to producing such garbage just because it made me lots of money. My self-respect is worth much more. Regards, Steadfastly
  5. First of all, rap is not real music; second of all holograms are hollow.:)
  6. Nah, no reason to be so dramatic. I've got a decent job, and I just play music for fun; if it's not fun, I play less of it. I mean, if you really want to keep playing music, take a minute to figure out what exactly would bring you joy. If not (or if you can't find an answer), don't put so much pressure on yourself. As an example, here's my story from the past six months. Back in December, my original band broke up. Bummer. Soon after, my acoustic duo started taking off. The acoustic duo turned into a full funk/pop band, and I picked up bass for that; then I saw a really inspiring original act in need of a bass player, and was lucky enough to join up with them. The acoustic duo band is getting ready to disband at the end of May - people are moving. At the same time, I've found some guys to help me re-form my original band. All the while, I've been working on writing for a project with the girlfriend. It's just a cycle, and you'll find what you're looking for if you let it find you as well - no reason for drama or hard feelings. Regarding selling off your gear, I say you should never be afraid to sell. It's just stuff, and if you feel like it's unnecessary, there's no reason to hoard it. I've bought and sold tons of gear, and almost all of it could be easily acquired again; if not, there's plenty of gear out there that I haven't tried. You are so reasonable............and wise.
  7. First of all, we all change as we get older and time marches on. Priorities change over time. I don't think I would ever quit playing but I've never played in a band so I've not faced playing with those who can't keep their ego to themselves. But if playing was my favourite thing to do, I could see it getting replaced with other things down the road. It wouldn't end but it wouldn't be the #1 any longer.
  8. Those are cheap (as in inexpensive) guitars. $550.00 Pesos works out to just over $40.00 US/CDN.
  9. No, most humbuckers sound nothing like a tele pickup when tapped. Its got to he a realy hot wound pickup to sound even close to a strat pup, and a Tele pup is a hotter pup than that. The other factor is a tele pup has a plate in back of the coil that disperses the mahnetic field in a unique way "and" the steel bridge that surrounds the pickup influences sound. What about the Duncan P-rails? Have you tried them? I'm very curious to see if they would still give that tell twang.
  10. I say "ye put the Snickers out for Steadfastly" Could I have Lindt 70% chocolate instead? I can't stand those cheap milk chocolate sugar bars. Thank you.
  11. If I was going to spend $2800.00 for a used guitar, it would be something built for me or something I would have a part in building, so it would be "my" guitar.
  12. I really don't get that people include '82-'84 as being part of Ed's prime. I can see that he was a fantastic player both solo-wise and as a rhythm player up to and including Fair Warning. Beyond that though it was mostly treading water, or slipping into pop rock mediocrity, though I concede that Women ANd Children First is still a great record. His soloing went downhill pretty fast once he started trying to sound like Holdsworth, which in my opinion was too lofty a goal for him. Granted they have similarities, but Ed's whole "floating solo" thing is really annoying to listen to. I'm not dismissing the notion that the guy had an impact, because he certainly did. However, it isn't nearly what people make it out to be. Good player, granted. Good hook writer, a major plus. Be all, end all? Not even close, but I don't think this was ever his intention anyway. Ed gets a big thumbs up from me as a player, but no way would he make my top 50. Just my 2 cents, reiterated again for the sake of keeping the thread going. Your 2 cents worth was well spent and well said. We all have our favourites but being OUR favourites does not make them the best outside of our own opinion.
  13. NO. Likely, Steve Vai or Brian May. I would even put Jimmi Hendrix about Van Halen.
  14. The Agile will be here Monday! nice. Oh, I forgot to mention that it's the Red Spalted model..... http://www.rondomusic.com/al3000wineredspalted.html I don't think you could get a better deal for $300.00. That is a nice guitar.
  15. MF is just a store front, but I think a lot of the online companies share the same stocking facility? True. MF and Music123 are the same company. Even their website is now very similar. They are not trying to hide it any longer. Even GC's site is more similar than it used to be. They may be the same company as well.
