see i dont know how fuzz or distortion is a crutch. If i play sloppy with my lead tone i get tons of feedback and hear all the little mistakes i make. The same goes for delay, if i make a mistake...it repeats over and over and over again. I guess its just me but if i was going to go with something that would hide my sloppyness id rather play clean then with a saturated lead tone. I think he's saying that if you distort the signal enough you get "wall of fuzz" sounds that lack the clarity to display your mistakes.

yeah, I can see how it's so misleading with that name. Real hard to tell what it does. There's a "what do compressors do?" thread every week or two.
