  • i need plugin recomendations

I need a nice reverb, EQ, compressor, and limiter. Looking to spend not a lot. Free is good but I want it to be excellent.

    Any help would be appreciated

That's pretty subjective (meaning only YOU can determine that)

            +1 for the reaplugs set
            http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/

I also like the Kjaerhus Audio Classic Series a lot, which is free too. I quite like the reverb.

For less convential stuff, all of Stillwell Audio's plugins are available for unlimited free trial: http://www.stillwellaudio.com/?page_id=28

Just make sure you're listening with your ears, not your wallet.
            Null.

Nice reverb. Epicverb by Variety of Sound is good. http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/downloads/

One of my favorite plugin reverbs is only $50. Valhalla Room http://www.valhalladsp.com/valhallaroom Really recommend you check it out. It finally replaced some rack units and convolution plugs for me.

EQ. For no coloration, easy use, Reaper's EQ. Honestly, all of the Reaper plugins are quite good. But I am often looking for the basic effect PLUS coloration, and the Reaper plugs are fairly pristine in their approach imho.

Compressor. Again, the variety of sound plugs. Thrillseeker and Density.

Limiter for a little bit of cash.. I often use Tonebooster's barricade.

George Yohngs Waves limiter copy is quite usable for free. Betabugs skinned it. George Yohng's W1 Kinda a one trick pony tho.

Valhalla Room is splendid. I'd also suggest you get the Ambience plugin. I've been spending a lot of time with it this week on string samples and it's good.

+1 on Variety of sound!....especially BootEQ mkII
Also check out Magnus' plugins: http://magnus.smartelectronix.com/

                    For EQ I also like:
                    Blue Cat's Triple EQ http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_TripleEQ/
I also like Magnus NyQuist EQ for a really clean, transparent EQ (at the above link)

For compressors I like Blockfish, Rough Rider, PC2, all available here: http://www.untidymusic.com/vst-plugins/free-compression-vst-plugin/dynamics-list-of-free-vst-compressor-plugins/

                    I'll +2 for Vahalla Room.
If you can afford a little more 2CAudio's The Breeze is excellent.
Conversely, some free verbs that are really good are Glaceverb, SIR (convolution reverb), and Magnus' Ambience.
Here's a link to various free Reverbs: http://audio.tutsplus.com/articles/web-roundups/15-totally-free-reverb-plug-ins-that-rock/

There are man, but here's just one spot to check out some free plugs (look at the tabs):http://www.untidymusic.com/

                    Hope that helps.

                    Good luck.

I like Timeverb for a reverb plugin. My favorite thing about it , is that it has a usable setting when you open it without spending all day trying to find a good sound. I usually don't even mess with it when I use it for vocals.
It's not about money or popularity , although some money would be nice.

Voxengo GlissEQ, Compressor are pretty useful and effective.

Check out their demo before buying them. You can get their demos at  the Voxengo website .

                            For Reverbs:

                            VSSC Powercore
                            DVR Powercore
(these will soon be ported to UAD hardware)

                            Lexicon 224 UAD
                            EMT 250 UAD
                            EMT® 140 UAD

                            Valhalla Room - Affordable

                            -----------

                            EQ:

                            EQuality - DMG Audio

                            ----------

                            Compressor, and limiter:

Again, the Powercore and UAD have many of the best.
                            Waves has several good ones.
                            DMG audio - Compassion

ALSO Voxandgo make very respectable products including EQ, Compression, etc.
                            Affordable and musical.

                              +5 for ValhallaRoom! It's the cat's whiskers!

If you can find them on sale (because they are not exactly cheap otherwise), Softube's emulations of the Tube-Tech and Summit Audio compressors and EQs are beautiful. Again, not cheap, but they are solid investments as far as plugins go, IMO.
