  • I have $3000-$3500 to spend...

    Hi Folks,

I'm currently recording using an Mbox, MXL mic's and a G4 Powerbook, 1Gig Processor, 768 Megs of RAM.

I'm looking to upgrade my studio and this is what I think what be a good step up:

Trade in the Mbox for a Digi 002 Rack
    Toft ATC-2 Dual Channel Strip
and about $1000 to spend on A mic or (2) mics.

I have a reel-to-reel 8-track that I'd like to use for drums, then dump them into Pro Tools with the 002.

I'd like the Toft for better mic pre's than I'd have with the 002, but mainly for the EQ and Compression.

My thoughts are that I might be better off getting a couple of $400-$500 mics than just blowing it all on one $1000 mic. My vocals range from really pretty mellow stuff to full-on Kurt Cobain screaming. Any recommendations for mic's?

Does this seem like a logical and good upgrade?

    Thanks in advance.

An SM7 would probably be a pretty good choice.
