  • Work Horse Omni?

I'm looking for a work horse Omni mic. I want to get two so i can record a room in stereo. I have a great sounding room I want to record in, and my sh86 and 57 don't really pick up room verb enough.

is there an omni around the price of a 57 that sounds good?

There are Naiant mics that are omni and very reasonable.

The EV 635A is an omni dynamic that costs the same as a 57.

Good mic but I think he was saying that the 57 was not giving him enough gain so the 635 would not either therefore a higher output mic like a condenser might be more what he is looking for.

No reason one has to use an omni to capture room sound though, any pattern mic will do.

Dynamic mics used to capture room sound may not give much level unless the sound is super loud or you have a micpre with a ton of gain but that

How does the EV635A compare to the shure SM63?

635 is a nice flat mic, well flat except for the extreme highs and lows anyway and can be a very useful mic on a number of things.
