Case lining color for a '71 Martin D-28

I have a '71 Martin D-28. The case's lining is blue. Original case? A couple of people have told me the linings were always green.

 

What do you know?

My 73 D35 came in a gray suitcase-type vinyl molded case with blue lining. It looked like it cost more than the guitar.

In '71, Martin guitars did not come with a case. It was optional... at extra cost. Could.have been a typical plastic case, could have been hardshell, could have had a green liner... or blue... or even red.

I have three Martin thermoplastic cases. My 1980 D12-28 came in a rust colored one which I assumed was original, in about 1990 or 95 I bought one for my old D18 off UMGF - it's lining is green and a friend recently gave me the green one from his 2010 or so OM-42. I also looked at a sweet little 1969 000-18 today, it was in an older thermoplastic case and I think the lining was red (but I was far more interested in the guitar than the case).

 

So I guess Martin case linings vary - does it matter?

I'm advertising a '71 online. In the ads, I said "original hardshell case." The guy I bought it from ten years ago said it was original, but two people wrote to tell me that the case can't be original because it's not green.

 

So I removed the word "original" from the ad.

 

Now excuse me while I go put it back in.
