Members ajk7193
Hello everyone! I am in need of some help regarding a crack on the side of my Martin guitar. Trying to get some ideas on if it is repairable and how much it would cost? I have attached a couple photos on here. Thanks!
Members Freeman Keller
It is repairable, I would want to see it to give an accurate estimate. I would use hot hide glue and put some cleats on the inside (it should already have some side reinforcements, either mahogany or linen strips). If I was doing the work I would not try to sand or scrape the crack perfectly flat on the outside, matching the color and finish would be very difficult. The crack itself might be $50 or so, if you really wanted the finish matched and oversprayed I might charge 50 - 100 more b(assuming the finish is nitro as on most Martins, if it is one of the modern catalyzed finishes I won't attempt it). . If it was badly splintered inside or wood was missing the cost could be significantly more.
Members Emory
$50 sounds very reasonable. Might be enough to look for good gits with cracks at big discount on price, then inexpensive repair.
