Members Gary Blanchard
I just picked up an Epiphone Masterbuilt AJ45me acoustic electric guitar. I am enjoying the playing and the sound of it. My question regards the strap button/jack. I am having great difficulty getting the strap on it; the button is large and close to the body. The strap is on, but I don't totally trust it. Does anyone have tips for getting the strap on a button like that? Here I am playing the new guitar:
Members Mickey Maguire
You might be able to find a straplock that will fit it. I have always been uncomfortable with the size of those jacks myself.
Members katopp
Hole puncher, punch bigger hole, secure with a beer bottle rubber from Grolsch bottles.
Members DeepEnd
"Close to the body?" The strap button is in the same position as the ones on my Ibanez and my 12-string. Here's what I do: I put the strap on the button and then I put the strap over my head. If the strap is leather, it should stretch over time. You don't want it to go over the button too easily or it might slip off. If necessary, you can always get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/C-F-Martin-18A0032-Guitar-Leather/dp/B00CFMWBLC

Does anyone have tips for getting the strap on a button like that? Here I am playing the new guitar: It does look a bit close to the corner of the heal of the neck. Maybe a narrower strap would actually sit on the strap button better. I saw this guys site and have yet to order anything from him/them, but it's on my mind. Not inexpensive. I bought a buddy of my a Jodi Head strap and he uses it on his Martin D28 all the time. I really really like these http://www.brookwoodleather.com/pricing I use a Lakota Leather strap on my Gibson F5G mandolin, it's really nice. You could trim the end of your strap so it sits better on the heal. I have a fleet of guitar straps hanging around my house. I like some better than others, and some fit and stay on some guitars better than others.

Phil O'Keefe
I've been wondering about those - how does it sound? I'd definitely recommend getting some strap locks for it. The Grolsch beer washer trick can work, or you can get a pair of Schaller or Dunlop metal commercial locks, or even something like this: http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/lok-strap or this: http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/ergo-lok-strap No matter which option you pick, they're cheap insurance! Members katopp
I use the Grolsch Beer rubbers on all my guitars but one, which has such a stupid connector/belt knob combination that no belt fits and no Beer washer. Since no belt fits, it's relegated to unplugged and seated, but I don't care. All my other guitars - all 25 of them - are equipped with the fabulous Grolsch Beer Bottle rubbers and I have had the benefit of having to empty cases of beer to get the washers. It was a very arduous task, but I have mastered it and I am proud of myself. Now, everytime I see a Grolsch bottle i buy it - just for preventive maintenance in those rubbers... Phil O'Keefe
lol You can get the washers now without having to drink the beer - for some that's a ridiculous proposition, I know, but for those who would rather just jump straight to the end, here's a couple of options - you'll need to be of legal age to enter the first one, but it's by far the better value - nearly ten bucks for a hundred washers vs four bucks for four... https://bellsbeer.com/store/products/Grolsch-Gaskets-%252d-100-count.html?gclid=CLW1vLiUvswCFciFfgodcYoOeQ http://www.musiciansfriend.com/strap-locks/fender-strap-blocks-4-pack
Members Freeman Keller
We don't often get those bottles over here but when we do I save them (rubber and all) because I'm an amateur brewer and those are some of the best bottles for refilling. Members katopp
Why the bloody beep should I buy those Beer Bottle Stopper Rubber things without the Beer that comes with the Beer Bottle? I can see no reason in doing so. It's like buying strings when you have no guitar, like.
Members DeepEnd
Not everyone likes beer. I'm not a big beer drinker myself but I'd probably go ahead and get the bottles full of the stuff on principle. Not everyone would though.
Members katopp
DeepEnd - you are absolutely right. No one is obliged to drink beer. Feel free to enjoy some spasrkling or still water, or whatever floats your boat.Cheers...
Members Gary Blanchard
So, I bought this from Elderly Instruments: It goes on my strap. then goes around the end pin and locks it in place. I feel more secure, now.
Members DeepEnd
Glad you got it sorted out but, again, I have the same basic setup on my Ibanez and I've never had a problem with the size or position of the strap buttons.
Members guitarcapo
You do that too? I have about 6 gallons worth.
Members guitarcapo
About a week ago I bought a 4 pack of Grolsch just for the bottles.I must say that the beer isn't as good as it used to be. Drinkable but kind of watered down.Pilsner Urquell is way better beer these days for that kind of drink.
Members Gary Blanchard
Glad you got it sorted out but' date=' again, I have the same basic setup on my Ibanez and I've never had a problem with the size or position of the strap buttons.[/quote'] I participated in a Dylan birthday show and I noticed most folks had the same type of strap button and each one looked like the strap was barely hanging on. I don't get it, myself. But, my problem is sorted and I am loving this guitar.

Members Gary Blanchard
How's it working for you? Any problems getting it on to the button and keeping it attached? It is working beautifully. It was easy to install and the clip is nicely secure. I am resting easier since I got this.
Members garthman
It's probably made under licence instead of imported. That's been the case here in the UK for a few years and it's not as good as the original either. I only buy lager-type beers brewed in the country of origin now. And usually Eastern European ones - Czech, Polish, - some good stuff. But yes, the bottles are great for home-brew - I only use the Grolsch type bottle. Phil O'Keefe
Cool - I may have to give one of those a try. I've used a lot of different types of strap locks over the years, but I've never tried that one.
Members Gary Blanchard
I've played acoustics for 50 years and never felt the need for strap locks until now. The design of that jack doesn't work for any strap that I owned.
